Liverpool Transfer News: Marco Reus, Mats Hummels Rumours Fuelled by Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund have said there will be no hard feelings if former coach Jurgen Klopp attempts to sign any of their players for Liverpool, opening the door to approaches for players such as Marco Reus and Mats Hummels.
The Bundesliga team's CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told German newspaper Die Welt (h/t Jamie Sanderson of Metro) he remains on good terms with his previous manager, and trusts Klopp's integrity if he wanted to discuss returning to the Westfalenstadion for any of his former players: "We have a very good relationship with Jurgen. There would be no conflict were there to be interest in one of our players at some point. He would contact us before (he contacts the player)."

According to the Daily Star on Sunday (h/t Mirror), Liverpool could make January offers to take Reus and Hummels to Anfield, boosting their charge for a Champions League finish. The pair would cost the Reds a combined fee of £56 million, but they would signal the club's intent to back Klopp in the transfer market.
Klopp recently confirmed he has no reservations about returning to Dortmund to snag any of his former talents, and he would be happy to do business with them, per John Richardson of the Daily Express:
"There is no agreement with Borussia Dortmund. I heard as well that there was one – these sort of things are always written at the time but, no it’s not true. [...] I have a good relationship with Borussia Dortmund and a good relationship with all the players there – there is nothing negative between us.
So there could be a possibility – if we need a player then we could try. At this moment there is nothing to talk about. But there is no agreement that we can’t do business with Dortmund. There’s also no agreement that we can’t sell players to Dortmund!
"

Liverpool supporters will be enthused by what they've seen from Klopp's early offerings as manager, and a few choice transfers in January will further strengthen the team's attempts to finish in the top four.
Former Liverpool defender and Sky pundit Jamie Carragher said after the win at Manchester City, per Richardson: “The first 35 minutes was as good as I can remember. It was like watching the Red Arrows.”
Despite Watzke's comments, BVB will not want to lose either talent, and weaken their campaign midway through the season. The CEO recently claimed he wants Hummels to remain at the club, per ESPN FC's Stefan Buczko:
Reus quickly developed into one of the world's most exciting wingers under Klopp, and he would bring a deadly artistry with him to Anfield. The attacker would also score goals, as well as assisting, and he has struck seven times in 11 Bundesliga appearances this term, according to WhoScored.com.
The two are world-class talents, and they are the kind of players Klopp needs to add to take the Reds to the next level.
There was much doom and gloom in the opening weeks of the campaign under ex-boss Brendan Rodgers, but that has quickly evaporated after the events surrounding Klopp's appointment.
Liverpool are not far away from producing a championship-winning side, and with the right additions they can be real players in the Premier League.
