Chelsea Submit Planning Application for New Stadium at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea’s hopes of building a new stadium have taken a step forward, as the club submitted planning application on Tuesday for a new venue to be constructed at Stamford Bridge.
Sky Sports News HQ confirmed the announcement, with the Blues hoping to build a new home, which will hold 60,000 spectators. As reported by Charles Sale of the Daily Mail, the champions are seeking to rebuild a new stadium on the same site of their current home, over the course of three years.
Richard Conway of BBC Sport and Oliver Todd of the MailOnline provided a sneak preview of what the new stadium would look like:

Sale writes that Chelsea have “gone the extra mile” to ensure they have the backing of local residents and loyal supporters in respect of the project.
It’s suggested the Blues will offer season-ticket holders the chance to keep their current seat in the new ground, with the stands to be given the same names as those currently at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will also seek to run apprentice building schemes in an attempt to help those in the neighbourhood while the construction is ongoing.

The Blues will have their planning application reviewed by the council and are likely to receive a verdict next summer, according to Sale. If approved, Chelsea will move out of Stamford Bridge from the 2017/18 season onwards and look to play home matches at Wembley, although Tottenham Hotspur, who are also having a new stadium built, may rival them for that privilege.
