Luis Enrique Eyes Barcelona Transfers, Talks Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has confirmed he will try to conduct some January transfer business and has also hailed the impact of the team’s enthralling attacking trio, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

Enrique was addressing the media ahead of the Blaugrana’s clash with Real Sociedad this weekend, having scored a whopping 16 goals in their last four games. However, according to the manager, they are still looking to add some more reinforcements in the mid-season window, per AS English:

With Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan set to join the squad already, some new faces are likely to give Barcelona a big lift after two windows in succession without any signings being allowed.

After the departure of Pedro in the summer and the injury to Rafinha earlier in the campaign, one facet of the squad the Blaugrana may seek to bolster is the forward line. Only some players to provide strength in depth, though, given the way the aforementioned attacking threesome are playing at the moment.

A 6-1 win over Roma in midweek saw Messi, Suarez and Neymar start their first game together since September, with the former returning from injury. Enrique had high praise for the Barcelona No. 10, who he insists is impossible to pin down in full flight, per Dermot Corrigan of ESPN FC:

Worryingly for Barcelona fans, just days after he returned to the starting XI, stories have surfaced in the English press suggesting Messi may leave the club, with Manchester City apparently keen.

Indeed, according to Shaun Custis and Martin Lipton of the Sun, the Premier League side are willing to offer the 28-year-old a whopping £800,000-a-week to join them, while Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has also claimed the “door has never been so open before” in respect of a transfer.

Enrique was adamant any talk of a potential transfer was not founded on anything solid, twice dismissing the prospect of a transfer, per Corrigan:

Like most of us, Enrique seems to be enjoying seeing Messi, Suarez and Neymar all performing well in the same side.

The three have been magnificent throughout 2015, helping Barcelona win the La Liga title, Copa del Rey and Champions League. Given their form, many have questioned whether or not they could even be the three shortlisted finalists for the upcoming Ballon d’Or awards.

It’s an honour Barcelona have been bestowed with before, as Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta all made it to the final three in 2010. Enrique doesn’t see any reason as to why the same scenario can’t present itself again with these excellent forwards, per AS English:

However, the Blaugrana boss was also quick to point out the fact that while the attacking triumvirate are capable of great things, the other eight players on the pitch provide solid foundations upon which they can thrive, per the Barcelona Twitter feed:

After thumping rivals Real Madrid in their own back yard and a masterclass triumph over Roma in midweek, all Enrique needs to do is keep fuelling the momentum this Barcelona team is gathering. With Messi back in the fold, new faces set to come in and challenges to meet in 2016, that doesn’t look likely to be an issue.

It’d be remarkable to see three Barcelona players in the hunt for the Ballon d’Or again this year, especially given how well Cristiano Ronaldo has performed for Real Madrid. There are few who would begrudge them this privilege, though, in what’d be a fitting tribute to the attacking trio that has lit up world football throughout 2015.
