Colts Sign Dan Herron, Release Zurlon Tipton
The Indianapolis Colts claimed running back Dan Herron off waivers Thursday and released Zurlon Tipton to make room for Boom in the backfield.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the news on Indianapolis' transactions, and Colts.com's Kevin Bowen confirmed in a more extensive report thereafter. The Buffalo Bills released Herron on Wednesday, and he didn't have to wait long for a chance to continue playing.
This is Herron's second stint with the Colts, who have shown a penchant for bringing back former ball-carriers in 2015. They signed Ahmad Bradshaw for a third time in October and now have another back with a feel for the system.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Herron had to be feeling Thanksgiving sentiments as he took to Twitter to express his gratitude:
Indianapolis already has Bradshaw and another veteran, Frank Gore, at Herron's position, but the former has an extensive injury history, while Gore has serious mileage on his legs at age 32. It doesn't hurt to have insurance in the form of a fresher 26-year-old in Herron.
Since Tipton only logged two carries in seven games this season, there was little reason to keep him in the fold if the Colts felt Herron could contribute more significantly. Herron acquitted himself well in 2014 with 351 yards on 78 carries with a touchdown and 21 receptions for 173 yards.
The Colts do need dependable backs to lean on as 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck assumes duties under center with star quarterback Andrew Luck hurt.
Thursday's activity may signal a move to a more by-committee backfield approach and a shift in offensive identity after Hasselbeck has averaged 36 pass attempts in three 2015 starts.
