Conflicting Reports Surround Coyotes' Interest in Anthopoulos
Monday, Nov. 23
According to Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, "Two sources have now confirmed that the Arizona Coyotes have reached out to the former general manager of the Blue Jays, with the hopes he would consider a senior position or a consulting position with the National Hockey League team."
However, Craig Morgan of ArizonaSports.com reported the Coyotes are "not pursuing" Anthopoulos.
It would certainly be an interesting and unexpected career move for Anthopoulos to jump sports over to hockey. Even Anthopoulos was surprised by the Coyotes' interest, per Simmons, though he does know Arizona assistant GM John Chayka.

Simmons reported Anthopoulos has received interest from multiple teams and media outlets, though he'll wait until December or early January to make any decisions about his future.
Anthopoulos Is an Attractive Target Given Rebuild in Toronto
It's not surprising Anthopoulos is a popular target. He took over as Toronto's general manager in 2009 and a series of trades this season—from landing Josh Donaldson before the campaign to bringing aboard David Price, Troy Tulowitzki and Ben Revere before the trade deadline—helped lead the Blue Jays to an AL East title and ultimately a berth in the American League Championship Series.
He decided to turn down a long-term deal with the club, however. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports speculated that his decision to leave the club coincided with the team bringing aboard Mark Shapiro as the new president.
Regardless, it seems unlikely Anthopoulos will be without a job for long. Even teams from other sports have apparently been impressed with his ability to put together a club, though he'll likely remain in baseball if the right opportunity presents itself.
