Sunday Recap

Wright reached the final after edging out Taylor 11-9 in a close semi-final, while Van Gerwen handily beat Lewis 11-5.

The Dutchman carried that momentum into the showpiece final, racing to a 4-0 lead with two 180s in the first two legs while Wright missed a number of doubles.

Nevertheless, the Scot was able to finally get on the scoreboard, per Live Darts:

Galvanised by the win and roared on by the crowd, Wright proceeded to take a further four successive legs—including two 12-darters, one of which requiring a 121 checkout on the bull—to take a 5-4 lead.

An astounding 170 checkout was Van Gerwen's impressive response, and the pair alternated legs until the Dutchman claimed an invaluable break with a fifth 180 and a tops finish:

A 116 checkout saw Wright break back immediately and the pair resumed winning one leg apiece, until in thrilling fashion Van Gerwen forced a decider with a 129 checkout on the bull.

Van Gerwenfar more experienced at closing out finals—did just that as he sealed the final leg. PDC Darts captured his winning moment:

Wright admitted he needed to work on hitting his doubles more reliably, while Van Gerwen revelled in his stunning victory, per Live Darts:

Earlier, Wade and Wright kicked off the proceedings in the afternoon session and the former was able to claim the first leg with a ton checkout despite Wright opening with a 180.

Wright responded in stunning fashion to take the next five legs and a commanding lead in the tie, thanks in part to three more 180s.

As Live Darts noted, the Englishman's downfall was his inability to hit the doubles:

Wade was able to take three consecutive legs, with the Scot just one away from victory, but a 74 checkout on double 16 sealed Wright's place in the final four.

Up next was Taylor, and he made short work of Bunting.

Per Live Darts, the Power took the first five legs and looked in tremendous shape:

From there, the 55-year-old was firmly in control, and though Bunting was able to pull back three legs, he never truly threatened a comeback.

Taylor praised his opponent after the contest, per PDC Darts:

Lewis' match with Jenkins was a tighter affair, particularly in the opening stages.

Jenkins, who conquered Gary Anderson on Saturday, began strongly with a maximum and a 97 finish. Another 180 in the second leg wasn't enough to prevent Lewis from pulling level, and the contest remained close until Jenkins crucially missed four darts at the doubles to allow Lewis a 6-3 lead.

That score quickly became a 9-4 lead. Jenkins valiantly pulled two more legs back with a finish on bull and then on tops, but a seventh 180 helped Lewis see out the win in style. Lewis admitted the match was a difficult one, per PDC Darts:

Last up were the two Dutchman, and they put on a magnificent show.

The pair remained evenly matched as they exchanged legs until at 4-4, Van Barneveld bagged three in a row with some clinical throwing. Try as he might, the 48-year-old could not shake off his opponent, though, as Van Gerwen steadily reeled him in.

At 8-6, Van Barneveld was just two legs from securing the victory, but the 26-year-old equalised with finishes on just 13 and then 12 darts.

Van Barneveld had the chance to take the next two legs, but he incredibly missed tops and then double eight to allow the clinical Van Gerwen to see out the match. Live Darts shared their remarkable stats:

Van Gerwen of course went on win the tournament in the thrilling final. The Dutchman is enjoying a phenomenal year and looks set to continue his incredible form at the Players Championship Finals later in November.

As for Wright, he has faced Van Gerwen in all three of his PDC finals and is still searching for his first win. If he can replicate Sunday's performance when his next final comes around, he stands an excellent chance of claiming that elusive first title.
