Louis Van Gaal Comments on Memphis Depay's Play, Consistency
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admitted he is a bit disappointed with Memphis Depay's performance this season but isn't holding any resentment for the player himself.
"Of course [I expect more] because otherwise he would still be in the team," said Van Gaal on Friday, per BBC Sport. "But players in that age are not consistent. I don't have a quarrel with the player. It's a matter of form."
In 12 appearances across the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, Depay has two goals. WhoScored.com gives the 21-year-old a 6.62 overall rating this season, which is 18th on the club.

That isn't the return United and Van Gaal expected when they signed him from PSV Eindhoven for £31 million in the summer.
For better or worse, many supporters will likely contrast Depay's struggles with the way in which Anthony Martial hit the ground running at Old Trafford.
In a press conference ahead of United's match against Watford on Saturday, Van Gaal spoke about how Jesse Lingard has so far supplanted Depay for a spot in the first-team squad, per United's Twitter account:
The 128 Eredivisie and Champions League appearances Depay collected while at PSV belie his age and still-developing talent on the pitch. While the Dutch winger is undoubtedly gifted, it's not all that surprising that he'd need a period of transition upon transferring to United.
Supporters want immediate results, but it may be a full season before Depay starts having the kind of impact on Manchester United that he did on PSV.
