Chelsea Transfer News: Edinson Cavani Wanted, Latest on Oscar Rumours
Chelsea reportedly see Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani as the man to rejuvenate their season in the January transfer window, with the Uruguayan said to be available for £32 million.
Le10 Sport (h/t Charles Perrin of the Daily Express) claimed the Uruguayan could leave the Parc des Princes midseason for the aforementioned amount, with the Blues, Juventus and Manchester United all cited as potential suitors. Arsenal were also strongly linked with the forward throughout the summer months, per Sami Mokbel of the MailOnline.
Cavani has never quite been able to establish himself as a key man for the Parisians since his move from Napoli, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic occupying the position at the point of the attack and the Uruguayan flanking him.

However, as we can see here, despite Ibrahimovic’s influence, Cavani remains a major threat in the final third of the pitch:
For Chelsea, he’d be a fine acquisition. Diego Costa has been shy of his best so far this season, Loic Remy remains injury prone and Radamel Falcao is a shadow of the player he once was. It means the Blues, while struggling in all facets of their play, have looked especially toothless when in attacking areas of the field.
Cavani has all the qualities to thrive in English football, with his work rate, physicality and clinical finishing capable of boosting any side in the division. PSG won’t want to let him leave, especially with Ibrahimovic’s contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, meaning the Blues may have to break the bank to bring him in.
Juventus Want Oscar

Italian champions Juventus are still hopeful of striking a deal for Chelsea midfielder Oscar, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Luke Gardener of the Daily Star).
Gardener noted Blues boss Jose Mourinho would be happy to cash in on the Brazil international, provided they can recoup the £19.35 million they paid for him. Oscar remains a peripheral figure at Stamford Bridge, making just five Premier League starts so far this term despite Chelsea’s struggles.
It’s peculiar, given the Blues have lacked a lot of guile in their play recently, Oscar hasn’t featured more often this season. As noted here by Think Football, one of the team’s main issues is the lack of ingenuity in advanced areas of the field:
Oscar would help in that sense. At his best, the 24-year-old is an ideal Mourinho player, possessing quality on the ball and also a tenacity in his defensive work. Oscar seemed set to play a crucial role under the Portuguese, but as talk continues to swirl surrounding a possible exit, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see Chelsea decide to move the playmaker on.

This season has not worked out for him yet and in the weeks to come, when Chelsea face some less illustrious opposition, Mourinho may look to his creative traits in order to help break down packed defences. If not, for Oscar, a move to Turin will start to look more and more enticing.
