Brazil vs. Peru: Date, Time, Live Stream for 2018 World Cup Qualifier

Tom SunderlandNov 16, 2015

Brazil welcome Peru to Salvador's Arena Fonte Nova on Tuesday evening, where they're hoping to advance their bid to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Selecao manager Dunga saw his side claim a 1-1 draw in Argentina last time out, a fixture that appeared to be the most difficult of their qualification campaign, while Peru beat Paraguay 1-0 in Lima.

Brazil will take heart from their recent result against La Albiceleste, but Tuesday's hosts have been far from perfect in their qualifying bid so far, winning one, losing one and drawing one of their three matches.

Match Preview

Peru are heavy underdogs to emerge from the qualifier with points in hand, and as such, will grasp at any slight advantage they can take in the build-up to one of their biggest matches this year.

When the game against Argentina was postponed for 24 hours last week, Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) technical director Gilmar Rinaldi told SporTV that the rain delay would not affect Tuesday's kick-off, per Goal:

"

We met with match officials and the Argentine representatives and there's no way the game can go on. The postponement will affect logistics, but will do the same harm to Argentina as well. We have to adapt, we will see how the training goes, change our flights, and I'm going to the locker room to talk to the players and rearrange a few things.

But the game against Peru remains the same. We'll just adapt our schedule a little and we will decide with Dunga and the coaching staff how best to do so.

"

And slight though the advantage may be, Peru will be happy to have an extra day of training compared to their opponents, who may still feel some hangover from their draw in Buenos Aires.

Peru have timed their upturn in form well, too, after clinching the first win of their 2018 World Cup qualification run thanks to a 1-0 beating of Paraguay, while Brazil's only win remains a 3-1 victory against Venezuela.

Ricardo Gareca's team endured a four-match winless streak prior to last week's triumph, not to mention having already lost to Brazil this year, when they fell 2-1 to Dunga's side at the Copa America in Chile.

Their recent record against the Selecao may be disappointing, but ESPN's Juan Arango picked Peru out as something of a bogey team for Brazil:

A massive weight rests on the shoulders of Flamengo forward Paolo Guerrero, whose 25 international goals make him the top scorer currently in the squad and just one strike from matching Peru's all-time record goalscorer Teofilo Cubillas.

The 31-year-old will have his chance to draw level with that number come Tuesday, but Atletico Mineiro defender Jemerson could be called upon to mark the veteran for his debut.

Per Goal's Tom Webber, the 23-year-old illustrated his surprise to be called up:

"

I didn't believe it. I was going home from training with my friend. Someone called me and [technical director] Gilmar [Rinaldi] was on the telephone saying I had been selected. I thought it was a prank. I called my agent to find out if it was true, but he didn't answer. Gradually, I understood.

I have already faced Guerrero two or three times. I was comfortable in every game. The secret is to touch him a lot. If you go man-to-man you will hardly win and if he gives an opening you must try to take the ball from him.

"

Just as Guerrero will be looked upon to inspire Peru, the same can be said of Neymar, who was kept relatively quiet against Argentina and will be seeking a greater impact in midweek.

He and Brazil are still attempting to rediscover their best momentum, and all the pressure sits with them to ensure Peru are defeated without much fuss.
