Ronda Rousey Injury: Updates on UFC Star's Status and Return

Ronda Rousey surrendered her UFC bantamweight title to Holly Holm at UFC 193 on Nov. 14, after which she needed to be transported to a hospital in Melbourne, Australia, per ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne. She has since returned home.

Rousey Cleared to Train

Thursday, Dec. 10

Fox Sports revealed Rousey has been cleared to do "light" training and is hoping to have the rematch against Holm in July:

UFC president Dana White indicated on Wednesday that Holm's next fight is tentatively scheduled for July 9, when she'll square off against Rousey in Las Vegas at UFC 200, according to the Los Angeles TimesLance Pugmire


Rousey's Medical Suspension Released

Wednesday, Nov. 18

Rousey will be medically suspended for "180 days or cleared by negative head CT scan," according to MixedMartialArts.com, citing the UFC's official release. She will also observe a period of "60 days no fight[ing], 45 days no contact."

Rousey Provides Health Update

"I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support," Rousey wrote in an Instagram post. "I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I'm fine. As I had mentioned before, I'm going to take a little bit of time, but I'll be back."


Minor Surgery Required for UFC Star

Shelburne (via her colleague Michele Steele) reported Rousey's medical tests did not reveal a concussion, but she will have plastic surgery on her injured lip.


Rousey Facing Mental and Physical Recovery

Rousey fell to Holm in the second round of their title fight, when she took a head kick and several punches before being knocked out. 

Rousey entered UFC 193 with a perfect 12-0 record, but Holm's tactical proficiency overwhelmed the 28-year-old from start to finish.

All eyes will now be on Rousey's response, not only to her first defeat but also her first knockout. Famed for her aggression, Rowdy will need to prove she hasn't become hesitant as a result of Holm's devastating work.
