Manchester United Transfer News: Wolves Chase James Wilson Loan, Latest Rumours

Tom SunderlandNov 14, 2015

Manchester United striker James Wilson is in demand once again after it emerged Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to sign the starlet, while Joel Castro Pereira could return to Rochdale on another temporary deal.

Wilson has been a peripheral figure at Old Trafford this season, making just one first-team start under manager Louis van Gaal, but Wolves boss Kenny Jackett is monitoring his progress, per the Express and Star (h/t Metro's Sean Kearns): "We’ve kept an eye on it. But we haven’t made any fresh inquiries in terms of James."

A host of Championship outfits were being linked with the 19-year-old over the summer, and the Telegraph's John Percy reported in September a massive 14 second-tier clubs were examining his situation.

It's hardly a surprise after Wilson has showed so much promise in his Manchester United infancy, emerging from the Red Devils' academy before making his senior debut for the club last year.

However, the forward has struggled for playing time this term, and a temporary move away from the Premier League giants may be deemed best at such an important time in his growth.

Manchester United clearly have high hopes for Wilson after rewarding the teenager with a new four-year deal in September, and Full Time Devils posted footage of Van Gaal lauding that stroke of business:

The attacker made 17 first-team appearances for the club across all competitions last season, including 13 in the Premier League, but £36 million arrival Anthony Martial appears to be their prime prodigy at present.

Wilson's only start of the 2015-16 campaign thus far came in the League Cup defeat to Middlesbrough, when Sky Sports' Pete Hall illustrated how he's been ostracised from the senior squad in recent months:

Jesse Lingard has delighted Old Trafford lately after getting off to a superb start in his senior career, and seeing his under-21 team-mate succeed might give Wilson hope of establishing a first-team presence of his own.

However, the striker spots at Old Trafford are among some of the most pressure-filled in the Premier League at present, and with United out of the League Cup, opportunities could be hard to come by.

Meanwhile, Rochdale manager Keith Hill has voiced his admiration of United under-21 goalkeeper Pereira, heaping praise on the 19-year-old after his spell at Spotland Stadium came to an end.

Hill told Rochdale's official website Pereira wanted to be sure of a first-team spot, but he wasn't prepared to offer it despite being so enamoured with the youngster:

"

He has returned to Manchester and disappointingly so, may I add.

He’s an excellent player, I love him to bits and he suits me as a Manager with the type of goalkeeper that he is - he’s very flamboyant, very risqué and very confident.

He wanted me to give him assurances but I won’t give anybody an assurance of playing or guarantee that they’ll play. I want a competitive nature to training and I want everybody to feel as though they’ve got an opportunity to prove themselves worthy of playing within training.

I understand his thoughts and if he changes his mind and wants to come back then he’d be embraced with open arms because I think he’s an excellent young kid who has got an unbelievable future in the game.

I’m glad that he came to us and I’m glad that he played on Tuesday night because I thought he was excellent.

"

Such a glowing review suggests Pereira would be welcomed back to the club should he wish to return, but the question is whether the goalkeeper's mind can be changed after making just one appearance for the Dale.

Pereira has featured for Manchester United under-21s on 11 occasions and is attempting to break into Portugal's under-21 team after gaining six caps for their under-19 side.
