Manchester United Transfer News: Latest on David De Gea, Adnan Januzaj Rumours

Rory MarsdenNov 12, 2015

Manchester United star David De Gea has said he is "really happy" at Old Trafford having almost departed the club for Real Madrid in the summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper was embroiled in a summer-long transfer saga which eventually resulted in him being left out of the United squad at the start of the season before his mooted move to Real eventually collapsed on deadline day.

De Gea subsequently signed a new contract with United until 2019, and the 25-year-old said on Thursday he has matured after being reintegrated successfully back into the first team under manager Louis van Gaal, per ESPN Deportes' Fuera De Juego (via ESPN.co.uk):

"

I felt in that moment that to extend my contract was the best thing to do. I'm really happy now, at one of the biggest clubs in the world, where I feel loved by the fans. Nobody let me down or disappointed me -- these are things that happen. You must look forward, and I am very happy now. During the market anything can happen, it can all change inside a minute. Football is like that. There were difficult moments, strange moments, but they help you to mature. To be stronger.

"

He also sent his appreciation out to the United fans for their support, with the Old Trafford faithful having given him a hero's welcome in his first start of the season against Liverpool back in September after signing his new contract.

Rumours have abounded that De Gea's new contract includes a release clause which could allow Real to renew their interest in the Spain international next summer, per Jamie Jackson of the Guardian.

According to Sky Sports' Guillem Balague, Los Blancos were still keen to sign De Gea even after he penned an extended deal in Manchester.

However, the Madrid outfit's need for De Gea has cooled somewhat recently.

Current No. 1 Keylor Navas has been immense so far this season, and Rafael Benitez's side are now struggling in his injury-enforced absence, per Opta:

With Navas performing to such a high level, it is unlikely that De Gea would be open to a move to the Bernabeu where he would have to compete for the No. 1 spot with the Costa Rican.

Given that he is now clearly very happy at Old Trafford, De Gea could yet remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

He has continued to be excellent this season, as the Red Devils have conceded fewer goals than any other side in the Premier League. Van Gaal's team look set to mount a genuine title challenge in 2015-16, as they are currently only two points off of the top.

Meanwhile, it seems unlikely that Adnan Januzaj will return early to Old Trafford from his season-long loan at Borussia Dortmund despite recent reports suggesting as much, per the Daily Mirror's Simon Mullock.

The Belgian has struggled for game time at Dortmund—he has yet to start a Bundesliga game, per WhoScored.com—but the club's sporting director, Michael Zorc, has ruled out an early return to Old Trafford, per German outlet Kicker (via Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC): "That's currently not an issue. We play an extraordinary season, and the others do an incredible job. There is no reason to bench them."

Januzaj has much to compete with to break into the Dortmund attacking line, with Marco Reus, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gonzalo Castro and Shinji Kagawa all having shown terrific form so far this term.

But he will clearly have to stay at Signal Iduna Park and fight for his place for the rest of the season as a return to United is not on the cards.
