Chelsea Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo Wanted Amid PSG, Manchester United Talk

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly hoping to land Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, who is already the subject of reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain and former club Manchester United.

According to Alfredo Relano of AS, journalist Tomas Roncero believes Abramovich wants Ronaldo "as the keystone for his new Chelsea project," while "PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi, is thinking along the same lines."

The superstar has continuously been linked with a return to United in recent years, with Jose Felix Diaz reporting in Marca on Wednesday that Ronaldo is keeping his options open but that the Red Devils are at the forefront.

Football journalist Graham Hunter does not believe United to be the most likely candidates to land the forward, though. Speaking to Mark Chapman on BBC 5 Live Sport, he said:

"The Manchester United that Cristiano Ronaldo fell in love with has completely gone. Cristiano’s time of being in the elite three, four, five in the world is dwindling. He will need to be looking at winning things. Is that a guarantee at Manchester United? No."

Ronaldo fuelled speculation at the world premiere of his film on Monday, taking the time to praise United boss Louis van Gaal and reaffirm his support for the club, before revealing he is open to the idea of reuniting with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who coached him during his own spell with Los Blancos.

Per Sergio Fernandez of Marca, he said: "Work with Mourinho again? Why not? I've got two more years on my contract with Real Madrid, but no-one knows what the future holds."

Equally, PSG are one of the few clubs in the world capable of affording Ronaldo, and Relano notes the player would welcome a move to Paris also.

Further, Relano highlights Ronaldo generating more headlines when he embraced Les Parisiens manager Laurent Blanc after PSG's Champions League clash with Real and appeared to whisper something in the Frenchman's ear.

Nevertheless, Ronaldo has no shortage of suitors should he seek a move away from Madrid, and Los Blancos either reap the rewards on the pitch if they keep him or financially should they sell him.

Despite United's struggles, he is perhaps more likely to rejoin them than move to Stamford Bridge so as to avoid damaging his relations with the club that made him. At PSG however, that would be no such issue and the club's better chance of winning silverware could sway him to join their cause instead.

One thing is for certain, speculation on his future will continue to turn the rumour mill—particularly as Ronaldo himself is doing the turning.
