The United States announces its basketball team roster for the 1992 Olympics, which was the first to be comprised of professional players due to a 1989 rule change. The squad was collectively known as the “Dream Team” and inspired truly remarkable pieces of art, like the one featured below.
Truth be told, that artist was a real wizard. Symmetrically positioning caricatures of white dudes and accurately portraying Chris Mullin’s high fade is no easy task. Believe me.
Of the twelve players on the team, ten were included on 1996’s list of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
Included: Barkley, Bird, Drexler, Ewing, Magic Johnson, Jordan, Malone, Pippen, Robinson and Stockton.
Not so much: Christian Laettner and Chris Mullin.
Impress your co-workers: The Dream Team and head coach Chuck Daly did not call a single timeout during the entire 1992 Olympic tournament.
