Leonard Fournette's Jersey, 2 Helmets Sell for $101,000 at Auction

The legend of Leonard Fournette in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has no bounds—even when it comes to his dirty laundry. An unnamed bidder paid $101,000 for a jersey Fournette wore during the LSU Tigers' win over South Carolina earlier this season, along with LSU and South Carolina helmets, in an auction that ended Monday.

According to Ross Dellenger of the Advocate, the bidding escalated quickly:

Of course, there is some context needed here. The LSU and South Carolina helmets were signed by Tigers head coach Les Miles and former Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier, respectively, while the jersey featured Fournette's signature, per Josh Kendall of the State. The bidding was part of a fundraiser to help South Carolina families affected by flooding this year.

Fournette addressed his intentions for the auction in a statement released by the school, per Kendall:

Having been through a similar situation with my family during Hurricane Katrina when I was 10 years old, this is something that I wanted to do to help those in need. The generosity of people helped my family make it through Hurricane Katrina. I'm hopeful that the money raised with this auction can make a difference for those flood victims in South Carolina.

"

$101,000 is a lot of money. To put it in context, it would be just enough to cover four years of in-state tuition and room and board at LSU. So, essentially, someone paid the cost of Fournette's scholarship to own a jersey worn by the Heisman candidate in a random October game against a team that's currently 1-6 in SEC play.

It's safe to say the LSU faithful haven't jumped ship on Fournette following his disappointing Week 10 performance against Alabama.
