Arsenal Transfer News: Mathieu Debuchy Ponders Exit, Latest Jese Rumours

Stuart NewmanNov 9, 2015

Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy has hinted that he could be heading for the Emirates exit door in January, having found first-team chances few and far between this season.

Hector Bellerin has kept the Frenchman sidelined throughout the campaign; and with France manager Didier Deschamps telling Debuchy that he needs regular football to be in with a chance of making his Euro 2016 squad, the upcoming transfer window could see him jump ship.

The 30-year-old has made just six appearances in all competitions in 2015/16, according to WhoScored.com. When quizzed about how it feels being understudy to the 20-year-old, Debuchy admitted he’s considering his future—via Darren Lewis of Daily Mirror:

“I am dealing with it. I am trying to stay strong. We are going to remain concentrated until December, after that I will see.”

Debuchy made the switch to the Emirates in 2014 for £12 million as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, but he’s never quite found the form that made him a Premier League star with Newcastle United.

Still, Bellerin’s recent injury has given Debuchy the chance to impress and make the right-back position his own, yet former Gunner Emmanuel Frimpong is one of many not convinced by his performances:

Deschamps believes his countryman still has plenty to offer, though, saying that Debuchy is just suffering from a lack of game time—via Lewis:

“Mathieu Debuchy is in a position where he is playing very little. He has a decision to make in December or January. He hasn't lost his quality, he's playing very little."

A team that could profit from Wenger’s decision to leave Debuchy benched is Roma, who have been linked with landing the Frenchman.

According to Le10 Sport (via Metro) the Italian giants are in desperate need of a right-back and are planning to swoop for the Arsenal man in January.

That would leave Bellerin as Arsenal’s only recognised right-back, with Calum Chambers able to step across from the middle of the defensive line if the Spaniard picks up an injury.

Squad depth is of paramount importance in any side’s quest for silverware, and although Bellerin is more than capable at full-back, an injury would throw up a real problem in Debuchy’s absence.

Rotation could be the only way that Wenger keeps his hands on the Frenchman in January, yet seeking pastures new will likely be his choice ahead of Euro 2016.

Jese Rodriguez

Arsenal fans have been crying out for a world-class striker for many a season now, and they could finally land a front man from Real Madrid in January.

No, it’s not Karim Benzema, but youngster Jese Rodriguez, who has reportedly grown tired of life on the Bernabeu bench—per AS (h/t Daily Mirror).

The 22-year-old came through the youth ranks at Real and made his first team bow back in 2011, yet he’s only managed to don the white shirt on 42 occasions so far—per Soccerway.

Squawka Football’s Phil Kitromilides said the young Spaniard has what it takes to produce the goods for the first team week in, week out despite his lack of opportunities:

"

He plays with a swagger that comes from confidence, and a belief that comes from achieving so much at such a young age. When you have a squad as strong as Real Madrid’s there will be exceptional players who are not playing as much as they would like, and Jese is one of those players.

Real Madrid’s loss could well be Arsenal’s gain, though, as AS report that the Gunners will have the chance to secure his services in January, yet they’ll have to fend off interest from Napoli and Liverpool to do so.

Arsenal fans’ pre-season optimism finally looks like amounting to something special in 2015/16, yet Wenger has to be intelligent in the January transfer window if he wants to land the biggest silverware on offer.

Landing a player of Jese’s quality and keeping Debuchy as a back-up for Bellerin will give the French manager the quality he needs to satisfy the trophy-hungry Emirates faithful.
