Arsenal Transfer News: Felipe Pardo Targeted, Latest Edinson Cavani Rumours

Stuart NewmanNov 9, 2015

Arsenal are reportedly set to launch a surprise move for Olympiakos winger Felipe Pardo, as manager Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his attacking optionsโ€”per Fichajes, via Metro.

The Colombian impressed during Olympiakos'ย shock 3-2 victory at the Emirates Stadium in September, causing nightmares for the Arsenal rearguard with a goal and an assist.

Such form has continued on both the domestic and European stages, with Pardo's late brace in the recent 2-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb catching the eyeโ€”Wenger's eye included.

Anyone at the Emirates for the visit of Olympiakos will tell you how dangerous a prospect the 25-year-old is, as he combines electric pace with dynamic trickery and has plenty of ability in front of goal.

His final ball is often the telling one for the Greek side, which is where the likes of injured duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott falter for the Gunners.

However, their absences haveย Wenger onto Pardoโ€™s scent, as the Gunners are looking a little threadbare in the attacking positions without the Englishmen in their ranks.

Plus, with injuries often plaguing Arsenalโ€™s title surge, having quality in depth could prove important in 2015/16.

Pardoย signed for Olympiakos in the summer on an initial loan deal thatโ€™s set to go permanent in July, so the Greeks will be reluctant to part company with their star man.

However, if the price is right, theyโ€™ll be tempted. The Colombian will cost Olympiakos ยฃ4.9 million, according to Transfermarkt, which means Arsenal can test the water with an improved offer.

Landing a winger of Pardoโ€™s calibre will boost the Gunnersโ€™ title-winning credentials, but itโ€™s another out-and-out striker fans really want to see walk through the Emirates doors.

Edinson Cavani Move Back On?

Arsenal have been linked with Edinson Cavani seemingly since the dawn of time, but January could see Wenger finally get his man.

According to Fichajes, via Metro, the Gunners boss will make a "major effort" to get the Paris Saint-Germain forward to north London when the transfer window opens again.

Cavani needs no introduction; heโ€™s one of those players who knows his way to goal, which, incidentally, is something Arsenal desperately need.

Walcott and Olivier Giroud are talented players, sure, but theyโ€™re not quite prolific enough to give the Gunners the European and domestic glory they so sorely crave.

That much was clear during Arsenalโ€™s 1-1 draw with arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, as Giroud missed a handful of decent chances to give his side all three points.

Journalist and fan Piers Morgan gave his two cents on the matter, saying that a world-class striker would have put the opportunities away:

Cavani could well be the man Morgan is crying out for, which is why he carries such a big price tag.

PSG reportedly wanted ยฃ44 million for their star striker back in Augustโ€”per Fichajes, via Daily Telegraphโ€”and any kind of discount on that in January is incredibly unlikely.

Itโ€™s all a case of Wenger putting his hand in his pocket.

The money is there for the French manager to spend, but he needs to make intelligent rather than impulse purchases.

Over ยฃ40 million is a lot to part with for a striker who does have the tendency to fade in and out of matches, but come May, it could prove the best bit of business heโ€™s ever done.
