"So the story is that my dogs got rowdy fighting over a dang Frisbee and I tried to break it up but got bit instead," Vonn wrote on Twitter.
Vonn, who won gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games in the downhill, also posted a video to Instagram from the operating table (warning: video contains graphic images):
Vonn, 31, has had to deal with oftentimes debilitating injuries throughout her career. In fact, she wasn't able to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, due to a second torn right ACL. She wrote this on Facebook before the Games:
"I am devastated to announce that I will not be able to compete in Sochi. I did everything I possibly could to somehow get strong enough to overcome having no ACL but the reality has sunk in that my knee is just too unstable to compete at this level.
"
Vonn also recently recovered from a broken ankle suffered in August 2015.
Fortunately, she told the Associated Press (h/t ESPN) she should be ready for a World Cup giant slalom event in Aspen, Colorado, after Thanksgiving despite Saturday's procedure. In fact, she plans to ski Sunday.
