Jose Mourinho Talks Willian, Chelsea Fans' Support After Blues Beat Dynamo Kiev

Tom SunderlandNov 4, 2015

Chelsea beat Dynamo Kiev 2-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday to end a four-match winless run, and manager Jose Mourinho was eager to single out individual players and the club's fans alike for their aid.

The Blues were tied 1-1 heading into the final 10 minutes of the group-stage encounter, but Willian rose to net the winner seven minutes from time and earn the praise of his boss.

Of the winger, Mourinho said, per BBC Sport: "He's playing very well, not just today. He has been playing well for a long time. Everybody did their job very well. It is fair to look at Willian because of his work rate, quality on the ball, participation in the first goal and quality of second goal."

This is the most pressure Mourinho has felt as a manager, but he maintains he'll remain at Stamford Bridge as long as he's wanted, adding: "The fans recognise I'm a good pro, brought a great moment and have had great memories. Until my last day in this club, if that is in four years, 10 years, 15 years, I will give everything to them."

Willian has helped ease the burden on his manager with some big performances despite the summer arrival of Spain international Pedro, starting in 14 of his 16 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.

Chelsea's place in the Champions League knockout phases remains far from sealed as the west Londoners sit second to Porto in Group G, three points off the summit and two points ahead of Dynamo.

Yet despite the ongoing adversity affecting his side's success, Mourinho was eager to bask in Wednesday's result as an achievement "in the negative moment," per BBC Sport:

"

The win is a big relief. The players deserve to get compensation for their hard work.

Many players are coming to their normal levels, despite having feelings as a team when negative moments come - and they are coming every game.

The difference today was that we had confidence in the negative moment. The negative moment is always arriving for us. We had that good reaction against Stoke in the League Cup and today we conceded that goal with 15 minutes to go. I think the team was strong mentally, they kept trying and I'm happy with that.

"

Two-time Chelsea Player of the Year Eden Hazard came off the bench as a second-half substitute, as did £19 million signing Pedro in what was another altered lineup for the Blues.

Mourinho may feel Willian's 83rd-minute free-kick winner is just another reason to continue offering him prominence in his creative setup, while players who once looked undroppable are now seemingly vulnerable.

The London giants will put their Champions League endeavours to one side for the time being as they return to domestic action against Stoke City on Saturday, the side who last week knocked them out of the League Cup.

Mourinho will know more is needed before the club can say a revival is under way, but Wednesday's Willian-inspired win might just be the first sign of the old Chelsea making its return.
