NASCAR at Martinsville 2015 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction
The tension between Joey Logano and Matt Kenseth boiled over at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, ultimately overshadowing Jeff Gordon's win in the Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500.
After Logano spun Kenseth out at the Hollywood Casino 400 back on Oct. 18, helping to knock him out of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, the No. 20 car obtained a measure of revenge. On Lap 454, Kenseth slammed Logano into the wall, knocking him out of the lead, per NASCAR:

Motor Racing Network offered this helpful dramatization of how Logano's fans reacted to the wreck:
The driver didn't mince words in his on-track interview, per NASCAR:
Kenseth denied he intentionally wrecked Logano, citing car issues as the reason for the crash. He also discussed how the racing gods can be extremely fickle.
"Some days you're the bat, some days you're the ball," he said, per Atlanta Motor Speedway's Twitter account. "It's no fun being the ball."
NASCAR, meanwhile, wanted a more in-depth explanation. Not only did it park Kenseth, it also called the driver, crew chief Jason Ratcliff and team owner Joe Gibbs to the hauler after the race, according to Daniel McFadin of NASCAR Talk.
No driver entered Sunday hotter than Logano. He had won the last three races and hadn't finished outside the top 10 since the Windows 10 400 back on Aug. 2. Now, Kenseth undid all of that work, and Logano's chances of winning a title in 2015 could be in peril.
The 25-year-old isn't completely eliminated from contention, but he'll need to be on top of his game in the next two weeks.
Logano's bad luck was Gordon's fortune, as he moved into first place following the wreck and held off Jamie McMurray in order to secure the victory:
| 1 | Jeff Gordon | 35 |
| 2 | Jamie McMurray | 0 |
| 3 | Denny Hamlin | 3 |
| 4 | Dale Earnhardt Jr. | 0 |
| 5 | Kyle Busch | 0 |
| 6 | Martin Truex Jr. | 27 |
| 7 | Ryan Newman | 0 |
| 8 | Kevin Harvick | 38 |
| 9 | Kasey Kahne | 0 |
| 10 | Tony Stewart | 0 |
Gordon survived a green-white-checkered finish after Sam Hornish Jr. spun out on Lap 494. Restarts are always so tricky on tighter tracks like Martinsville, so the No. 24 car needed to be perfect on the final three laps.
Gordon surged ahead immediately as the white flag waved and never allowed McMurray to have an opportunity for the pass, per NASCAR:
In his final season, Gordon now has a chance to win one more title, as Sunday's checkered flag puts him through to the Championship Round:
| 1 | Jeff Gordon | 4047 |
| 2 | Kyle Busch | 4039 |
| 3 | Martin Truex Jr. | 4039 |
| 4 | Kevin Harvick | 4037 |
| 5 | Carl Edwards | 4030 |
| 6 | Brad Keselowski | 4013 |
| 7 | Kurt Busch | 4011 |
| 8 | Joey Logano | 4009 |
To lesser extents than Logano, both Brad Keselowski and Kurt Busch are in trouble in the Chase after a wreck knocked them back in the leaderboard Sunday.
Keselowski got into Kenseth on Lap 434 and set off a chain reaction, per NASCAR:
He and Busch finished in 32nd and 34th, respectively.
Like Busch and Keselowski, Carl Edwards didn't help his chances of cracking the top four. On Lap 171, he suffered damage to his front end as collateral damage in the wreck involving Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon, per NASCAR:
Fox Sports' Tom Jensen figured Edwards would be happy to see the last of Martinsville for this year:
The wreck that claimed Keselowski and Busch ultimately handed Edwards a lifeline, but he still has some work to do in the following weeks.
All eyes will be on Logano, though, to see whether he can recover from Sunday's misfortune. A 37th-place finish puts him at the back of the pack among the eight drivers still in the Chase. Twenty-eight points isn't an insurmountable gap, but it's a stark contrast to where many expected him to be after the Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500.
Two more races remain before the Chase field dwindles to four for the final race of the season.
The Sprint Cup will shift to Texas Motor Speedway next week for the AAA Texas 500, and the Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 on Nov. 15 will close the curtain on the Eliminator Round.
