Twitter Reacts to Everton's Wild 6-2 Premier League Win over Sunderland

Joe GallagherNov 1, 2015

Arouna Kone stole the headlines on Sunday afternoon as Everton romped to a 6-2 win over Sunderland at Goodison Park.

But the scoreline doesn't do justice to a match that swung one way then the next before the Toffees asserted their dominance in the final half an hour.

Everton were 2-0 up after 31 minutes, with Gerard Deulofeu and Kone pouncing on some horrible defensive errors by Sam Allardyce's side.

Sunderland could feel aggrieved, though, having struck the woodwork twice in the first half.

They found a way back into the game on the stroke of half-time when Jermain Defoe fired home.

And five minutes after the break, the visiting fans were in full voice when Steven Fletcher equalised for the Black Cats.

But three goals in the space of seven minutes—from Romelu Lukaku, Kone and a Sebastian Coates own goal—swung the game back in Everton's favour.

The kind words were back out for Sunderland's defending:

And the compliments were flowing for Deulofeu.

With the points safe, all that was left was for Kone to complete his hat-trick with 14 minutes to play, creating a mixture of delight and confusion among Evertonians.

Sunderland are well and truly trapped in a relegation scrap, only separated from the Premier League's cellar thanks to the state of affairs at Villa Park. The memories of the derby win over Newcastle United last time out were fading.

Everton, who scored six in a match for the first time since 2007—incidentally a 7-1 win over Sunday's opponents—move into the top eight.
