Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Bayern Munich: Winners and Losers from Bundesliga
Bayern Munich lost their 100 percent Bundesliga record following a scoreless draw at Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday night.
The visitors dominated possession—holding 74 percent of the ball, according to ESPN FC—but could not turn their superiority into goals. Arturo Vidal came close with a first-half header, and Robert Lewandowski missed a clear chance with nine minutes left.
Eintracht enjoyed a bright spell early in the second half, with Marc Stendera nearly converting a Manuel Neuer miscue into a goal. But in the end, both teams had to settle for a point.
"Frankfurt defended very well and didn't leave us much space," Bayern coach Pep Guardiola told Bundesliga.com. "But we had enough chances to win the game. We did everything we could to win, but it just wasn't to be today."
The draw left Bayern with 31 points through 11 games. The champions had won each of their first 10 matches and will look to start a new run next Saturday when they host VfB Stuttgart. First, though, Guardiola's side will host Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Eintracht Frankfurt moved up to 11th, at least temporarily, with 13 points through 11 games. The Eagles will play at Hoffenheim next Saturday.

Eintracht Frankfurt accomplished a pair of impressive feats on Friday night, both of which no other Bundesliga side has done this season.
First and most obviously, the Eagles prevented Bayern Munich from winning. That might not sound like such an achievement, but the Bavarians had steamrolled the competition through their first 10 games, winning all 10 by a combined 33-4 scoreline.
Second, Eintracht held their visitors without a goal. As Bayern's impressive goal differential implies, Pep Guardiola's men have been nearly impossible to stop this season. The champions have hit five goals in three league matches already this season, scoring three or more on four more occasions.
So how did Frankfurt do it? Armin Veh's side frustrated their illustrious visitors with disciplined, organized defending. To a man, the Eagles took their defensive responsibilities seriously, limiting Bayern's space as well as can be expected.
And yet Bayern still created a couple of good scoring opportunities. Robert Lewandowski simply missed one in the closing minutes, but Eintracht goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky made a good save in both halves to keep the score level.
Loser: Robert Lewandowski

Is this harsh? Probably, yes. But Robert Lewandowski has set such high standards with his recent performances that any time he finishes without a goal, it's a shock.
In fairness to Lewandowski, the Poland international striker found himself isolated up top for most of the night. But when a big chance arrived in the 81st minute, he simply missed it, firing wide of the post after being played in by Arjen Robben.
Lewandowski did put the ball in the back of the net in the 89th minute, but this time he was (correctly) ruled offside. No player can score five goals every time out, but this was an off night for Lewandowski.
Winner: Lukas Hradecky

As previously noted, Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky made two good saves to ensure his side remained level. Bayern created surprisingly few clear chances, firing just two shots on target, but Hradecky performed admirably when needed.
His first big save came in the 11th minute, when Arjen Robben picked out Arturo Vidal with a cross from the left. Vidal placed a good header on goal, but Hradecky pushed the ball over the bar with an outstretched finger.
The hosts came under pressure again early in the second half, when an error by Carlos Zambrano gifted Bayern a big chance. Douglas Costa appeared destined to score with a low shot toward the near post, but Hradecky stuck out his leg and kicked the ball away at the last possible moment.
Playing a side as dangerous—and as adept at holding the ball—as Bayern was always going to be difficult for Eintracht. The Eagles have struggled for form this season, losing on Tuesday to third-tier side Erzgebirge Aue in the German Cup.
Eintracht were always going to need a strong performance from Hradecky in order to take anything from this game. He delivered exactly that.
Winners: Marc Stendera and Carlos Zambrano

Two more individual performances from Eintracht Frankfurt players warranted praise.
Apart from the error mentioned in the previous slide, center-back Carlos Zambrano played an excellent game at the heart of the Eagles' defense. It was no coincidence that Robert Lewandowski's big chance in the 81st minute came when Zambrano was off the pitch momentarily for treatment. The Peruvian bottled up Bayern attacks effectively for much of the 90 minutes, finishing with four interceptions and four clearances, per WhoScored.com.
Elsewhere, Marc Stendera proved a thorn in Bayern's side, providing dangerous crosses and set pieces from midfield. In addition, he nearly scored early in the second half following a miscue by Manuel Neuer. At just 19 years old, Stendera has a bright future ahead.
Winner: Tottenham Hotspur (from 1960-61)
5 of 5
Bayern's 10-match winning run from the start of the season was a Bundesliga record, but it wasn't the longest such streak in Europe's top five leagues.
In 1960-61, Tottenham Hotspur started the English First Division season with 11 straight victories. After Bayern's draw on Friday night, Spurs' record remained intact.
But while Bayern will be disappointed to have dropped points, this draw will likely be just a footnote at the end of the season. Pep Guardiola's side already have an eight-point lead atop the table and have crushed both Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg—two of their most likely challengers for top spot—by identical 5-1 scorelines.
Look for Bayern to get back on track next Saturday, when they host Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.
