Twitter Reacts to West Ham United vs. Chelsea in the Premier League

Chelsea's trip across London to face West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon was a key one for both sides and their ambitions of climbing the Premier League ladder.

Few would have expected the late-October clash to see Jose Mourinho's side sitting in the bottom half of the table and the Hammers in the Champions League places, but West Ham fans were quick to remind their cross-town rivals of this fact:

Before the game, Chelsea had won just three of their nine matches, while Slaven Bilic's side had already claimed the scalps of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Their glee was only accentuated when Mauro Zarate put the home side in front after 17 minutes.

And the pressure was right back on Mourinho.

But there was something bugging those watching from afar, and it wasn't the scoreline:

Back to the football, Kurt Zouma came agonisingly close to levelling for the visitors as half-time approached:

And moments after Cesc Fabregas had a goal ruled out for offside, Nemanja Matic was dismissed for a second yellow card. Did we mention Mourinho was under a bit of pressure?

The Special One was even forced to watch the second half from the stands after his reaction to the first half's controversy:

The new view seemed altogether more desirable for Mourinho, whose side rallied to equalise early in the second spell through Gary Cahill. There were mixed opinions on the goal, depending on what side of the drama you're supporting:

But just as things started looking up for Chelsea, substitute and forgotten man Andy Carroll nodded home to put West Ham back in front.

Though it wasn't a surprise to everyone.

And Mourinho was thrilled:

And even had to endure a confrontation with Danny Dyer.

West Ham held on to record yet another valuable victory this season, climb to second in the table and pile the pressure on the Blues. There was even some rare praise for the home side's manager:

Though, predictably, all eyes were on his opposite number in the post-match interviews...
