Gianni VerschuerenOct 18, 2015

Newcastle United and Norwich City served up one of the most exciting matches of the Premier League season on Sunday, with the Magpies winning 6-2 after an absolute goalfest at St. James' Park.

Georginio Wijnaldum scored an incredible four goals, and Moussa Sissoko was another big hero for the hosts, breaking the Norwich defence up time and time again with superb passing and constant movement. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez also scored for Newcastle, while Dieumerci Mbokani and Nathan Redmond found the back of the net for the Canaries.

On Saturday, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal all easily won their respective matches, while Jurgen Klopp made his Liverpool debut with a goalless draw against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea got a much-needed 2-0 win over Aston Villa. Here are the full scores for Week 9 of the Premier League season:

A Sunday clash between Newcastle and Norwich may not have looked like the most aesthetically pleasing match on paper, but both teams served up a magnificent first half of football at St. James' Park.

The two sides attacked without a care in the world, and it took just 14 minutes for Wijnaldum to open the score after some great work from Sissoko.

A great run from Martin Olsson resulted in Mbokani's equaliser just minutes later, and former England international Gary Lineker was enjoying the action at hand:

Sissoko and Wijnaldum again combined for the Magpies' second, with the Dutch international doubling his tally, before the Canaries had shouts for a penalty for what looked like a foul on Jonny Howson, who went down after a shirt pull from Daryl Janmaat.

Instead, Perez made it 3-1, with Sissoko again creating the chance, but just one minute later, Olsson picked out Redmond, who prodded home from close range to bring Norwich back within a single goal.

Bleacher Report UK were as shocked as everyone by what was happening at St. James' Park:

The second half started at a slightly slower pace, with the best chances falling to the visitors. Redmond could have equalised after 58 minutes, but he smashed a free-kick from a promising position over the crossbar.

But just as it looked the Canaries were taking over, Sissoko struck again, winning the ball in his own half and teeing up Mitrovic, who made no mistake from close range.

Minutes later, Sissoko played in Janmaat, who spotted compatriot Wijnaldum inside the box and handed him his hat-trick on a platter. As shared by BreatheSport, the Magpies looked nothing like themselves:

Redmond nearly added an eighth goal when he hit a post with a powerful drive, but instead, the goal came at the other end of the pitch as Wijnaldum confidently powered a shot past John Ruddy for his fourth of the afternoon.

The match lost all of its momentum after Wijnaldum's final contribution, and the Magpies cruised to only their first win of the season.

With the win, Newcastle leap over Aston Villa and Sunderland in the standings and now sit just two points behind Bournemouth and virtual safety. Sunderland are the last team in the Premier League who have yet to win a match.

Saturday Recap

League-leaders Manchester City cruised to a 5-1 win over Bournemouth thanks to another fantastic display from Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling's scoring brilliance. The former Liverpool man shone in Sergio Aguero's absence, netting a first-half hat-trick to down the Cherries before they had the chance to fight back.

According to Bleacher Report's Rob Pollard, a win like that was exactly what the Citizens needed:

"

His [Sterling] three goals meant City had the game won before half-time. With a crucial Champions League group game against Sevilla at the Etihad on Wednesday evening, this was perfect preparation. City moved down the gears for the second half, coasting through until the final whistle, safe in the knowledge their two-point lead at the top of the Premier League was intact.

"

It was a good weekend for the title favourites in general, as Manchester United easily beat Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park and Arsenal overcame a difficult first half to put away Watford.

Wayne Rooney was on target for the Red Devils, while Alexis Sanchez continued his superb form for the Gunners, opening the score in the second half.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool debut wasn't perfect, as the Reds played out a goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspur, with Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet perhaps the biggest hero.

The Belgian made a number of key saves to deny the hosts, who perhaps deserved the win more than the visitors. Despite that, Klopp was not an unhappy man, via the Europa League's official Twitter account:

Eden Hazard started Chelsea's 2-0 win over Aston Villa from the bench, and he watched Diego Costa steal the show thanks to some comical defending from the visitors. First, the Spain international was in the right place to take advantage of a horrific pass from Brad Guzan, leading to an easy tap-in.

Then, an attempted shot that seemed to have no chance of beating the goalkeeper took a huge deflection off Alan Hutton, giving the Blues a two-goal advantage they never gave up.

Jamie Vardy scored twice to win Leicester City a point at Southampton, and both Dimitri Payet and Yohan Cabaye were on target in West Ham United's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. Carl Jenkinson and Manuel Lanzini also scored for the Hammers, whose sensational start to the campaign is showing no signs of slowing down.

Saido Berahino scored the only goal in West Bromwich Albion's win over Sunderland, putting some distance between the Baggies and the relegation zone and keeping the Black Cats in last place in the standings.
