Round-Up

Liverpool took on Spurs in the most eagerly anticipated match of the day, and the contest was more entertaining than its scoreline would suggest.

Divock Origi hit the bar while Harry Kane and Clinton N'Jie forced smart saves out Simon Mignolet in the first half, and Kane again came close late on. As Opta Joe demonstrates, a reinvigorated Liverpool side worked and pressed much harder under Klopp than predecessor Brendan Rodgers:

However, as pundit Janusz Michallik noted, the Reds are without several key players to damaging effect:

Klopp was nevertheless pleased with what he saw. Per BBC Sport's Phil McNulty, he said:

"

I am happy because I saw many good things, in the first 20 minutes we were pressing and were very aggressive.

We will get stronger. We were a little bit nervous when we got the ball because the pulse was a little too high at this moment.

There were many full-throttle moments in the game. We need to improve but after working with the players for three days I am completely satisfied.

"

Allardyce wasn't quite as fortunate in his Sunderland debut, as he saw his Black Cats side go down 1-0 to a Saido Berahino strike.

Man City dominated from start to finish in their match with Bournemouth.

Sterling capitalised on some poor defending from the Cherries, slotting home from close range after Pablo Zabaleta's knockdown escaped Sylvain Distin. Wilfried Bony doubled the score shortly after.

Glenn Murray pulled one back for the visitors to spark hopes of a comeback, but Sterling quickly snuffed them out, as he latched on Kevin De Bruyne's exquisite pass and sold two defenders before finishing.

The England man had his third immediately before the restart from a rebound, while Bony grabbed a brace with a late strike.

Sterling will grab the headlines, but the Manchester Evening News' Stuart Brennan was equally enamoured with the effervescent De Bruyne:

City's archrivals United were similarly comfortable, if not quite as ruthless, as they recorded an impressive 3-0 win at Goodison Park.

First-half goals from Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera gave the Red Devils a commanding lead before Wayne Rooney scored his 187th Premier League goal to pull level with former United striker Andy Cole in the all-time top goalscorer charts behind Alan Shearer.

So too were Arsenal, who won by the same scoreline at Vicarage Road.

The Gunners had the better of the opening period but were unable to find a killer touch against the spirited Hornets, but goals from Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey secured the win in a ruthless second half.

Chelsea picked up just their third win of the season at home to Aston Villa.

Diego Costa opened the scoring in the first half and saw a shot deflect in off Alan Hutton for an own goal after the break to increase the pressure on beleaguered Villa boss Tim Sherwood.

West Ham United maintained their incredible away form with a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The teams were level at half-time thanks to a Carl Jenkinson strike and a Yohan Cabaye penalty, but the Eagles were up against it when Dwight Gayle saw red a minute before the break.

The Hammers laboured against 10 men throughout the second half, but a late driven effort from Manuel Lanzini and an even later, delightful chip from Dimitri Payet earned them the win.

Leicester City successfully came from two goals down yet again this season, as they remarkably earned a 2-2 draw away at Southampton.

Defenders Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk gave the Saints the lead, but Jamie Vardy had other plans, as he headed home Nathan Dyer's corner and lashed home a lovely pass from Riyad Mahrez.

The England man has now scored in six consecutive Premier League games, and as Squawka Football notes, his form goes well beyond just that:

The Foxes are far from safe just yet, but Claudio Ranieri's side have shown incredible resilience to salvage points from losing positions on multiple occasions this season.

If the likes of Vardy and Mahrez can continue to perform, it's inconceivable the club will be threatened by relegation this season.
