Forsett Comments on Status

Friday, Dec. 18

Nearly a month after his season came to an end, Forsett revealed in his blog that he is healing at a much faster rate than initially expected:

"

As Ravens fans know, I broke two bones in my arm during our game vs. St. Louis almost a month ago. I had surgery the next day. While the prognosis for my recovery was about six to eight weeks, I'm happy to report that because I also have wolverine in my blood, I will probably be back in four to five weeks. I won't be able to play of course—I'm on IR—but I'm a fast healer and normally come back earlier than expected. I hope this is no different.

"

In addition to that, the veteran running back laid out his goals for his return and contributions moving forward:

"I'm keeping busy, but I'm definitely focusing on getting back out on that field," Forsett wrote. "I have to come back a stronger, healthier, better me. My goal is to come back, make an impact and lead this team to a championship. That's my mindset."

The Ravens' season has been marred by injuries to key players like Forsett, so they already have their sights set on 2016.

If Forsett is able to return and play like he did during his breakout 2014 campaign, then Baltimore has a chance to get back on track and be players in the AFC North once again.

Harbaugh Comments on Forsett's Timeline for Recovery

Monday, Nov. 23

Head coach John Harbaugh told the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec on Monday that Forsett "should be fine" for the team's offseason program, adding the running back will "full speed and a go," per the Baltimore Times' Turron Davenport.

Forsett Done for Rest of Season

Sunday, Nov. 22

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reported Forsett broke both bones in his forearm, which will keep the running back out of the lineup for the remainder of the campaign.

Forsett's Injury Further Weakens Ravens Offense

After six mostly nondescript years in the NFL, the 30-year-old rushed for 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns for the Ravens in 2014. Losing Ray Rice for the entire season could have been a big blow for the Baltimore backfield, but Forsett transitioned seamlessly into the feature back role.

It was quite a turnaround for a player who had been with three different teams over the previous three years.

Forsett earned every bit of that three-year, $9 million extension he signed with the Ravens in the offseason.

He turned 30 on Oct. 14, which is generally the age when NFL running backs begin to decline, if they haven't already. Playing more of a secondary role for most of his career spared Forsett some punishment he otherwise would've taken as a starter, but he still has put mileage on his body.

Forsett looked to be showing that a little bit when he picked up a minor ankle injury in October.

Javorius Allen has stepped in to take carries in Forsett's absence. Allen has looked good in stretches but remains untested as a starter. Harbaugh also told reporters Terrance West will "definitely get an opportunity" in the backfield.

Without a consistent running game, Steve Smith in the passing game and no Joe Flacco under center—the veteran quarterback suffered a season-ending knee injury in the contest—it's a major blow to an offense that will be led by Matt Schaub for the rest of the campaign.
