Nike Unveils New 'Pioneers' Uniforms for Oregon, Pays Tribute to Lewis and Clark
Nike has designed some wild uniforms for the Oregon Ducks before, but its latest creation is by far its most unique.
Phil Knight's company has created new "Pioneers" uniforms that the Ducks will wear against Washington State on Oct. 10. While the only big changes to the uniforms this year have been to the helmets, these duds have some new features on the jerseys as well.
The "Pioneers" uniforms pay tribute to the state of Oregon—and explorers Lewis and Clark. You read that right. Lewis and Clark.

Nike has found a way to include "a sublimated, tonal pattern of the Oregon Trail" in the jerseys, with each player's jersey featuring a different part of the map. The jersey is gray to reflect the look of a vintage map.

Although fans probably won't notice the Oregon Trail pattern on television, they will be able to see Oregon's helmets. That's the Oregon Duck with explorers Lewis and Clark, with Lewis looking through a telescope.
The silhouettes aren't the only special feature on the helmet. The lines on the helmet pay tribute to the 2,200-mile Oregon Trail, and there is a 33-star United States flag on the back of the helmet that represents Oregon's joining the union.

As one last tribute to the state of Oregon, Nike has included "Salute the State" on the neckline inside the jerseys.
When the Ducks take the field Saturday, they will not only be a football team, but history teachers as well.
