WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE Hell in a Cell 2015 for Week of Oct. 1

Aaron BowerOct 1, 2015

A busy week on and away from the TV screens this week has pumped up the rumor mill and sent it into overdrive.

Raw's stuttering ratings, potential rivalries for the future and an update on what is fast becoming a drawn-out recruitment attempt for one former star all feature in this week's weekly roundup, as Hell in a Cell and the final three months of the year approach.

Dolph Ziggler vs. John Cena on the Agenda?

Right now, things are looking pretty bleak for Dolph Ziggler. The former world heavyweight champion is in a story that's going nowhere, and his momentum is such that he doesn't really have anywhere to go from here.

A real pick-me-up is needed, and it seems that could come in the form of a rivalry with one of WWE's main men, John Cena.

Wrestling Inc's Marc Middleton reported that after the ending to Season 4 of Total Divas, where Ziggler tried to kiss his ex-girlfriend and Cena's current partner, speculation is rife that Dolph and Cena are going to square off.

This would obviously mean a heel turn for Ziggler somewhere down the line, but given how WWE has tied Total Divas and its on-screen storylines together in the past, this could be a real possibility.

The speculation was heightened by Nikki tweeting this after the Season 4 finale:

Heel Dolph Ziggler might be the best version of the character too, at least based on his achievements as both a heel and a babyface. Ziggler and Cena have history as well, so perhaps this one might not be the worst move in history.

An Update on Carlito and His Family

We noted in last week's roundup that WWE was reportedly interested in bringing back former United States champion Carlito to the company for another run.

This week, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc) revealed that Carlito has rejected an offer from WWE because it was too low, but there is an openness from his point of view to come back if the right offer emerges.

However, what's also interesting this week is that there's a brief line on the future of Los Matadores, who are both related to Carlito. Diego is Carlito's brother, whilst their cousin Fernando is the other half of the tag team.

It's reported that they could be getting unmasked and returning to good old Primo and Epico, which could strike up the possibility of another three-man faction in the company.

The successes of The Shield and The New Day, as well as The Wyatt Family, could mean that if Carlito is lured back, The Colons could become a new group trying to take on the rest of the roster.

However, given his explosive debut last time out, it'd be fantastic if Carlito answered one of Cena's United States Championship open challenges on Raw.

WWE Going For a Big Ratings Push on Monday

Ratings are a big problem with WWE at the moment. Last week's show, the September 21 edition, drew a record-low rating. This week, things haven't got any better, per Wrestling Inc's Marc Middleton

"

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that the September 21st WWE RAW rating, which was a new record low, directly caused Vince McMahon to put "enormous pressure" on the WWE creative team, more than the previous two low numbers. With this week's RAW numbers lower than the September 21st show, you can bet Vince wasn't happy on Tuesday. We noted recently that Vince is known to make major changes when WWE starts panicking about the ratings.

"

Well, in a bid to halt that decline with the football season well back underway, WWE is rolling one of its big guns out on October 5: Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar was always due back on TV around this point to push his match with Undertaker at Hell in a Cell, but this might be slightly earlier than expected, given that we're still three weeks away from the event itself.

PWInsider.com reported the news, while Middleton noted that this could well be a response from WWE to the dropping ratings. Bringing someone like Lesnar in, and then probably Undertaker on a separate week to keep the interest high, is probably a smart move.

They've produced some real fireworks in the past, most notably in the run-up to their match at SummerSlam where they had an almighty brawl.

If the report above is true and Vince McMahon does make big changes when there's a panic over the ratings, bringing Lesnar back early could just be the start. It'll be well worth watching out for.
