Brock Lesnar's WWE Live from MSG 2015 Appearance Being Wasted Due to Bad Booking

Tom ClarkSep 29, 2015

Brock Lesnar is appearing at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, October 3, in a match against Big Show, and many fans are likely wondering why.  The Beast Incarnate has been on the biggest run of his career over the past year, and to imagine this match taking place after all that seems a bit illogical.

Lesnar's appearances on WWE programming have always been utilized to the fullest, which makes his match with Show more than curious.  He's such an attraction, such an immense talent, that to use him in that spot is nothing short of a waste.

Lesnar has always been featured as the big fight performer, the guy who only shows up when money is involved or if he's after something.  That something has been the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which he was unsuccessful in regaining from Seth Rollins.

That something has also been revenge, which has led him to a third match with Undertaker.  The Deadman prevented Lesnar from beating Rollins at Battleground and later stole another win when the referee was out of position at SummerSlam.

In both instances, Lesnar's direction has been very clear and that includes his television appearances leading up to both major events.  The Beast has been booked as needed, and his presence has always felt very organic, not contrived.

But the same can perhaps not be said of this match with Big Show.

From seemingly out of nowhere, the drifting Big Show has reentered the world of the intensely focused Conqueror.  The man John Cena could not topple and Undertaker cannot cleanly pin is now being targeted by a guy who is a heel one day and a babyface the next.  Show's credibility has been all but destroyed as a result of this constant switching, and many fans now feel he is irrelevant as a result.

He is the complete opposite of Lesnar in this regard, as nothing he does seems to have any rhyme or reason behind it.

Because of this, Show is not being taken seriously.  Fans have watched The World's Largest Athlete pursue gold and other stars in top storylines before, and he has fallen many times. That includes pursuing Lesnar, himself, whom he faced in early 2014.

That feud could very well have been the last time Show was not only physically impressive but razor-sharp in his focus.  He was determined to stop Lesnar and had it not been for a steel-chair attack at the Royal Rumble that year, The Beast would perhaps have been slain.  Lesnar appeared incapable of beating Big Show without taking the unfair advantage, so when the match was over, Show had lost very little ground.

However, this is not the same giant who stood across the ring from Lesnar then.

There is very little fanfare going into the Garden showdown, and that should come as no surprise.  There is no reason to get excited about this match because there is truly no point behind it.  However neither man is to blame for this.

Despite any criticisms ever leveled at Big Show, the fact is his booking is out of his hands. A 7-foot 500-pound talent, with 20 years of experience and seven world titles, should be treated with respect yet that does not happen very often.  Show appears rudderless and his storylines pointless, and that does not appear to be changing anytime soon.

That has led to Lesnar's appearance on October 3 being labelled pointless as well.  There is no logic in this booking, and while both guys will bring everything they have to get the match over, the question still remains: Why is it happening in the first place?

This was an opportunity for Lesnar to be featured in a match with some significance. Cena, Roman Reigns and even Rollins would all have been good choices, and a storyline with history would have accompanied each one.

Rusev, Kevin Owens and Cesaro would have all been different and unique opponents for Lesnar.  A confrontation with any of these three would not have necessarily needed to go the distance, as a sign from Undertaker could have interrupted the match.  But it would have been new and interesting, and that's the point.

Lesnar is stepping into a situation that does not truly further his cause and will likely do very little for Big Show as well.  The only hope fans can have is that the guys will do the best they can to make the match work regardless of the outcome.
