Liverpool Transfer News: Victor Valdes Move Blocked by Man United, Fresh Rumours
Liverpool look set to fail in their reported pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes as the Red Devils will not let the Spaniard move to another Premier League club.
Liverpool were reportedly interested in making a January swoop for the experienced stopper after he slipped down the pecking order—behind David De Gea and Sergio Romero—at United following a falling out with manager Louis van Gaal, per the Sun (via Aaron Flanagan in the Mirror).
However, while United are prepared to cancel Valdes' 18-month contract early—it is set to expire at the end of the 2015-16 season—they will do so only on the condition that he does not join another Premier League club, per ESPN FC's Peter O'Rourke.

Valdes has fallen out of favour with Van Gaal following accusations from the Dutchman that the 33-year-old refused to turn out for the reserves, per Sky Sports.
Despite this, however, the Spain international remains an impressive and hugely experienced goalkeeper. He is a winner of six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues with Barcelona, and a World Cup and European Championship with Spain.
He would have been a fine addition to Liverpool's squad to compete with Simon Mignolet, but unsurprisingly United are not prepared to let him join a rival club.
The Reds could still do with decent back-up in the goalkeeping department, though, as Mignolet is prone to errors.
Per WhoScored.com, he has a decent clean-sheet record, but all too often he is culpable for dropped points—see his recent mistake against Norwich from a corner that saw Liverpool eventually draw 1-1:
Liverpool do have an incoming goalkeeper to add to the ranks, but it is returning loanee Lawrence Vigouroux, who has had his year-long spell at Swindon Town cut short.
According to the Daily Mail's Simon Jones, the 21-year-old is returning from the League One club after disciplinary problems, including turning up late for training and attempting to pay the £50 fine for said offence in pennies.
Vigouroux had reportedly impressed in his early performances for the Robins, but along with Adam Bogdan, Liverpool hardly have the most inspiring cover for Mignolet.
