Caleb Sturgis to Eagles: Latest Contract Details, Analysis and Reaction
The Philadelphia Eagles lost kicker Cody Parkey to a season-ending groin injury, prompting the team to sign free agent Caleb Sturgis on Monday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The Eagles confirmed the move Tuesday, with Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo reporting Sturgis and Kai Forbath were the two finalists to battle for Philadelphia's kicking gig.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Sturgis played for the Miami Dolphins after being a fifth-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft but was released after being beaten out by Andrew Franks. The 26-year-old Sturgis has made 55 of 71 field goals in his young career and all 74 extra-point attempts.
Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News alluded to Sturgis' past injury issues that fit with the theme of the Eagles' busy, recent wave of roster moves under coach Chip Kelly's authority:
Kelly traded for Sam Bradford this offseason despite the quarterback coming off a twice-torn ACL. Philadelphia also acquired oft-injured running back Ryan Mathews and traded away LeSean McCoy for linebacker Kiko Alonso, who's torn an ACL before and is now dealing with a knee sprain.
The lack of success Sturgis has had and recent tribulations with quadriceps and groin injuries make him another unconventional signing by Kelly since he's taken over final say on personnel decisions.
If Kelly's uptempo offense lights it up on a more regular basis, Sturgis may have a fun and active job. To start the 2015 campaign, though, the Eagles have struggled to a 1-2 record and rank 31st in total yards per game.
At least Sturgis has the natural talent to thrive as an NFL kicker, evident in Miami's decision to draft him in the first place. Whether he can improve on his lackluster 77.5 percent conversion rate to date will determine how long Sturgis sticks in Philadelphia.
