WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from September 28

Erik BeastonSep 29, 2015

The September 28 episode of Raw featured WWE Creative limping into what should be a huge live event special from Madison Square Garden with an episode of Raw that could only be considered pedestrian at best.

There was very little in the way of urgency, with only Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show receiving any sort of hype prior to this weekend's show. That there was no other match announced aside from The New Day defending the WWE Tag Team Championships against The Dudley Boyz only hurt the buzz for a show that has otherwise been promoted heavily on the WWE Network.

Monday Night RAW

The lack of substantial hype for Saturday's show was hardly the biggest issue with Monday's event.

There was a complete lack of progression for any of the ongoing feuds.

Kane continued to play mind games with Seth Rollins, The New Day continued to annoy the top babyfaces with their general obnoxious ways, the Divas Revolution was again weighed down by the same undefined characters that have been a weakness since day one, and finally, Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt squared off in a match that had an electric final few minutes but did nothing to further the rivalry between the two.

WWE Creative failed the fans on a night when the company desperately needed a blow-away show in order to inject some energy back into its product, making the writers the biggest losers of the night.

Which Superstars and Divas joined them, and which were able to excel despite lackluster storytelling?

Loser: Charlotte

The Divas champion continued to be overshadowed by more over and interesting characters Monday night, having the spotlight taken off her and put on others involved in the so-called Divas Revolution that has incessantly been drilled into the minds of fans by commentators.

Both Paige and Nikki Bella took center stage Monday, the latter scoring a pinfall victory over Charlotte and presumably setting herself up as the No. 1 contender for the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.

The fact the current champion's character is nonexistent does not help. Simply being "Ric Flair's daughter" will only earn her so much goodwill with the audience before she is forced to make a name for herself, something Charlotte has not been asked to do to this point.

That must change, or fans will reject the one-dimensional persona in favor of Paige's anti-Diva attitude or even Nikki's egotistical prima donna heel.

Winners: Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt

WWE Creative may not have advanced the rivalry, but that does not mean Reigns and Wyatt did not deliver a fantastic brawl to close out Raw, culminating in two tremendous spots that left the ringside area destroyed and the fans chanting "Yes!" in unison.

Bray's tackle of Reigns through the timekeeper's position may have been an awesome sight, but Reigns one-upped him seconds later with his awe-inspiring spear through the announce table.

The two spots, not to mention all of the wild and chaotic brawling through the arena, elicited the biggest reaction of the night and suggests maybe the fans want to see more of the same rather than the watered-down, family-friendly product they have been exposed to in recent years.

By no means is that a call for the return of the Attitude Era. Instead, it is more like a call for WWE to put some more effort into crafting its segments than the "guy wrestles guy, other guy distracts his rival at ringside" formula it has leaned on for the last five years.

Reigns and Wyatt tore the house down, and for that, they are this week's biggest winners.

Loser: King Barrett

It would be easy to say Barrett's return Monday night and post-match promo suggest he is in for big things, but the WWE Universe has been subjected to the same nonsense when it comes to Barrett for so long that there is no reason to believe this time will be any different.

He has been pushed, then de-pushed and shoved right back into the mangled mess that is the WWE midcard so many times that booking him strongly only serves to further disappoint and frustrate fans who recognize Barrett's talent and entertainment value as far greater than what WWE Creative does.

It was nice to see the 2015 King of the Ring return with such a strong angle, laying out both of the men he had been involved with in a storyline prior to his hiatus, but until this writer is proved wrong, Barrett will remain an undisputed loser.

Winners: The New Day

If it was not clear before that The New Day is officially on Vince McMahon's radar, it was Monday night when Xavier Woods answered John Cena's United States Championship Open Challenge. Moments after that bout ended in a DQ, Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E wrestled a high-profile six-man tag team match against Cena and The Dudley Boyz.

That is right; the entire first 30 minutes of the broadcast were centered around the villainous trio.

The New Day has been among the most entertaining elements of Raw and SmackDown for months, and it is good to see management was taking notice.

To avoid ending up on the loser's side of things, though, it will be imperative the members of the group continue to be allowed to be themselves rather than being poked and prodded at, molded and changed by the writing staff to the point they become caricatures rather than characters.
