Jurgen Klopp Odds Slashed Amid Rumours Surrounding Liverpool Manager's Job
Odds on Liverpool to appoint Jurgen Klopp as their next permanent manager were slashed on Monday, as speculation continues to swirl about current boss Brendan Rodgers.
As we can see courtesy of OddsChecker, the price of the former Borussia Dortmund coach to take the top job at Anfield has come in as short as 10-11. Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is a close second favourite in most markets, while Frank de Boer is a distant third in the betting.
Rodgers was under big pressure going into the weekend’s clash with Aston Villa, one which Liverpool emerged as 3-2 victors. According to the Northern Irishman, there is a “frenzy” to force him out of the job, with illustrious names such as Klopp and Ancelotti linked to the position, per Dominic King of the Daily Mail.

BBC Sport’s Phil McNulty doesn’t necessarily agree Rodgers has been the subject of unfair and over-the-top criticism:
Whether or not the win over Villa merely prolongs the inevitable is a topic still up for debate, but three points against a team that’s not won since the opening day is not an emphatic sign of a turnaround. Indeed, there are plenty who frequent Anfield who seem to have made their mind up that it’s time for Rodgers to leave the club.

Names like Klopp being linked will do little to stabilise Rodgers’ position. According to Joe Bernstein of the MailOnline, the German would consider the job provided the Reds ditch their much maligned transfer committee.
Sports journalist Rafael Hernandez thinks that getting a coach in with Klopp’s pedigree and charisma would be a big boost to everyone at Liverpool:
Indeed, Anfield is currently in a malaise. Although Rodgers did steer a Liverpool side close to Premier League glory a couple of seasons ago, there seems to be no clear plan moving forward of how this team is supposed to play. Despite another summer of big spending, the squad still remains unbalanced, too.

Klopp would do plenty to lift spirits on Merseyside, and his emotive style of management does seem like a natural fit for a club like Liverpool, whose fans abide by romantic traditions and pageantry. Whether or not the club in its current state, out of the Champions League and a long way from a title challenge, could attract him is another matter entirely.
Still, the Anfield Chat thinks that given the quality of manager currently available, Liverpool could do a lot better than Rodgers:
It’s not often the bookmakers get things wrong, but with a flurry of stories surfacing about Klopp over the weekend, it’s little surprise odds have been chopped. Still, for the time being at least, Rodgers doesn’t seem to be in too much danger of losing his job.
To sack Rodgers so early into the season would represent a peculiar decision after backing him in the transfer market and allowing him to reshape his coaching staff during the pre-season. Things can change quickly, though, especially with a Merseyside derby looming large against Everton on Sunday.
