Totti Potentially Out for a Month Due to Injury
Sunday, Sept. 27
According to ESPN FC, the thigh injury that Totti suffered on Saturday is expected to keep him out of action for four weeks.
It was a rough game for Roma, which won the contest 5-1 but also lost forward Edin Dzeko to a knee injury that is expected to keep him out for a month and midfielder Seydou Keita to a thigh injury that should keep him out for two weeks, per ESPN FC.
It also means that Roma lost its starting forward in Dzeko and his top deputy, Totti, who has posted a goal and a 6.97 average match rating from WhoScored.com in three Serie A matches this season.
Totti, 39, was no longer needed to serve as the team's regular starter at centre-forward with Dzeko brought aboard this season. Still, his wealth of experience and craftiness at the position was valuable and, after 22 seasons and 300 goals with Roma, he's royalty at the club.
In the absence of both Totti and Dzeko, Roma will need attacking players like Mohamed Salah, Gervinho and Iago Falque to step up and provide goals for the club. The team have no shortage of talented attacking options, though losing their two true centre-forwards in one game will make it difficult for the side to keep pace with the top teams on the Serie A table for the next month.
