Bills Need Williams Healthy for Playoff Push
Expectations were high for Williams entering 2015, but he suffered aย neck injuryย in Week 2 against the New England Patriots, which resulted in him being stretchered off the field.
He was able to return in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans, but he may have come back too soon, as he injured his neck again and was placed onย injured reserve with a designation to return.
Williams sat out the remainder of the season and entered 2016 with some question marks regarding his long-term viability, as he admitted following neck surgery that he was unsure about his future, per Sal Capaccio of WGR 550:
The Bills selected Williams with the No. 34 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft as a cornerback, but he didn't initially translate well to the next level. Just when it looked as though Williams was a potential bust, a move to safety saved his career.
He became a full-time starter at safety in 2013 and posted 82 tackles and four interceptions. He followed that up in 2014 with 75 tackles and a pick in former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz's less aggressive system.
He has never played in all 16 games during a single season, although he missed a total ofย only three contests in 2013 and 2014 combined.
