Bryce Brown Cut by Bills: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

The Buffalo Bills announced via their Twitter on Tuesday afternoon that they cut running back Bryce Brown. 

According to their release, the Bills had to cut a player in order to make room for the returning Marcell Dareus, whom they activated off the reserve suspended list. The defensive tackle was suspended for the first game of the season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. 

It turns out that Brown was the low man on the totem pole in Buffalo, competing for playing time in a group of running backs that includes LeSean McCoy being backed up by Karlos Williams and Boobie Dixon. 

Brown looked like he might not have made it through the preseason in Buffalo, but injuries to McCoy, Williams and Dixon—along with the release of veteran Fred Jackson—changed that, according to WGR's Sal Capaccio:         

But with all three ready to go for Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts, Brown was listed as inactive.

Brown played in just seven games for the Bills after they acquired him from the Philadelphia Eagles, McCoy's former team. McCoy seemed to have confidence in Brown upon his departure last season, according to ESPN's Mike Rodak:

It's funny how things work out. 

Brown has shown flashes of being a successful running back in the league. During his first two years in the league with Philadelphia, Brown averaged a little over 4.5 yards per carry. He could be a serviceable backup somewhere else in the league, but in a deep pool of rushing talent in Buffalo, there was no place for him.
