Rivers Ties Dan Fouts for Most Touchdown Passes in Chargers History

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 15, 2015

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers threw for a pair of touchdowns in Sunday's 33-28 win over the Detroit Lions, tying Dan Fouts at 254 for first place on the all-time franchise list for passing touchdowns, per ESPN Stats & Info.

In one of his more memorable regular-season performances, Rivers actually got off to a rocky start, with his pick-six to Lions safety Glover Quin helping the visitors take an early 21-3 lead.

The Chargers then stormed back to score 30 consecutive points, led by Rivers and wide receiver Keenan Allen, who finished with 15 receptions for 166 yards.

Rivers' first touchdown of the game went to wide receiver Stevie Johnson in the third quarter, pulling the Chargers within one point at 21-20.

Just a few minutes later, Rivers found tight end Ladarius Green for a 13-yard score, matching Fouts on the all-time franchise list while also giving the Chargers their first lead of the game.

Rivers finished the game with 35 completions for 404 passing yards on 42 attempts, good for 9.6 yards per attempt and a sterling 83.3 percent completion rate.

He did throw a couple of interceptions among his seven incompletions, but he more than made up for it with a vicious second-half rally.

Rivers leads the NFL in passing yards through the first week of play, sitting 48 ahead of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (356), who led an impressive second-half comeback of his own.
