Saints Sign Veteran Kenny Phillips in Wake of Bush's Injury
Monday, Sept. 14
With Bush out indefinitely, the Saints acted quickly to replace him, reportedly signing veteran Kenny Phillips according to Mike Triplett of ESPN.
Phillips spent training camp with the Saints and originally made the 53-man roster, though he was waived a day later, per Triplett. It's possible he could step in for Bush and start immediately.
Bush, 28, has been a steady if unspectacular presence for the Saints in his four years with the team. Last year, he notched 44 tackles and defended two passes for the team.
His loss continues a disturbing trend for the Saints, as the secondary's injury woes also include health concerns for Keenan Lewis, Jairus Byrd and P.J. Williams. The depleted unit gave up 307 passing yards and three touchdowns to Carson Palmer on Sunday.
Until the secondary gets healthy, it's unlikely the Saints will be stopping many passing attacks.
