The 10 Most Entertaining Fighters to Watch PFM (Post-Floyd Mayweather Jr.)

Giancarlo Ferrari-KingSep 14, 2015

Floyd Mayweather, the undisputed king of boxing, has ended his illustrious career. A victory over Andre Berto sealed a 49-0 record for one of the sport's most dominant figures.

Now that Mayweather has ridden off into the sunset, boxing fans are forced to turn their attention toward other deserving names. The good news is there are plenty of exciting fighters to keep even casual boxing fans entertained.

We've scoured each division in boxing in order to bring you 10 of the most entertaining fighters floating around the post-Floyd Mayweather era. These are masters of the sweet science. Or as we like to say, guys that would make the legendary, cigar-chomping Bert Sugar proud.

Click away and find out why life after Floyd Mayweather isn't going so bad after all.

Terence Crawford

1 of 10

Undefeated 27-year-old boxer Terence Crawford is absolutely one of the top pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.

Behind a 26-0 record, Crawford has turned lightning-quick speed and ring smarts into a profitable career. Crawford has performed well working within the junior welterweight division. However, despite that success, it would be cool to see him make the leap to welterweight.

That's a great spot to fight big names like Timothy Bradley, Amir Khan, Kell Brook and Keith Thurman.

Crawford's next bout is against an unknown fighter named Dierry Jean. Those looking to see what he's all about should definitely tune into that contest. Based on the matchup alone, odds are you'll see Crawford tune up Jean in a dynamic way.

Danny Garcia

2 of 10

Of all the unbeaten fighters in the sport today, Danny Garcia may have the most inspiring resume. Throughout his career he's beaten the likes of Zab Judah, Erik Morales, Lamont Peterson and Amir Khan.

Garcia's game is focused on counterpunching. He's able to work within tight spaces and launch an extensive attack off the weaknesses of his opponents.

It's also great to see he made the jump into the welterweight division. As we've stated before, the biggest names in the sport are there, and that will give Garcia a chance to make serious money.

Those looking for a crisp-punching alternative to Mayweather would fall in love with Danny Garcia.

Gennady Golovkin

3 of 10

Knockouts are what Gennady Golovkin does. The sheer power Triple G possesses in both hands has left a path of destruction on his way to a 33-0 professional record.

When you can toss your mitts around and clobber faces, it can be tough to secure prominent fights. But as his legend grows, so does the quality of his opponents.

These days, folks want to see him battle Andre Ward or even Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Based on styles and power, those are two fights that would result in fireworks.

Golovkin's appeal isn't simply because of his power. He's also a quality boxer. He uses movement and sharp punching angles to devastate opponents. Few boxers out there can shatter jaws and rack up wins like Triple G.

Guillermo Rigondeaux

4 of 10

You can make a well-founded argument that undefeated boxer Guillermo Rigondeaux has been the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world for years now.

As a super bantamweight, Rigondeaux doesn't get nearly the respect he deserves. He's one of the smartest, most tactical guys around, and watching him work is truly a pleasure. Charles Farrell at Deadspin penned a wonderful think piece about the Cuban standout. In that article Farrell crowned Rigondeaux "the greatest fighter in the world today."

When you think about the brilliance that is Guillermo Rigondeaux, you think about his masterful performance against Nonito Donaire. That unanimous-decision victory was a virtuoso performance of leather-induced brilliance.

Unlike Gennady Golovkin, Rigondeaux doesn't overwhelm people with his power despite registering 10 knockouts in 15 wins. Where the real appreciation comes is watching him sit in the pocket and deliver a furious number of counters.

Immerse yourself in Rigondeaux's highlight reel on YouTube. What you'll quickly find out is that this guy has a rare skill set that deserves to be thrust into the spotlight.

Roman Gonzalez

5 of 10

Roman Gonzalez's style of fighting can be defined by one word: pressure. At 43-0, with 37 knockouts, Gonzalez has managed to win over anyone who's watched him fight over the last couple of years.

The issue here is a similar one that haunts Guillermo Rigondeaux. Gonzalez is a flyweight. And despite being one of the most exciting divisions in the sport today, it somehow doesn't get a ton of national recognition.

That's a shame. Because from everything we've seen, Gonzalez sure looks like an elite specimen armed with a healthy dose of boxing genius.

Kell Brook

6 of 10

The United Kingdom has historically produced a bevy of entertaining fighters. Welterweight Kell Brook is the latest one.

Brook is only 29 years old and already has established himself as a contender. His 35-0 record comes equipped with 24 impressive knockouts.

The main beef with Brook is that he hasn't fought any big names yet. He's built a resume beating guys that most people haven't heard of. That's not anything new. Some of the top fighters in the world have spent time padding their records before leaping into the spotlight. And when you watch Brook, you can tell he's a smart, effective fighter.

No matter what, it would be exciting to watch him take on Amir Khan or another prominent welterweight in the near future. That way a bigger audience could appreciate the talent Brook brings with him into the ring.

Naoya Inoue

7 of 10

Eight wins aren't enough to qualify a boxer for the coveted pound-for-pound list. But in Naoya Inoue's case, it's enough to make him a must-watch fighter.

Inoue has frightening power. He's used it to decimate seven out of his eight opponents. And even without a deep record, a fight between him and Roman Gonzalez would be fireworks, and it could really give the flyweight division a ton of clout.

Great fighters aren't defined by weight. They are defined by character and skill. In that sense, Naoya Inoue is one of the top dogs around.

Nicholas Walters

8 of 10

If your thing is power punchers, WBA super featherweight champion Nicholas Walters is a name that can't go overlooked. Walters stormed onto the scene in 2008, and all he's done since that time is crush foes.

It's taken a while, but we've all come to respect his talent. Walters picks fighters apart with brutish force and intelligent angles. It may be a commonly used term, but having the ability to punch from unique angles really is a game-changer.

The way Walters is able to step into his power punches and devastate opponents is legendary. He has used it to build a lengthy career that is still trending upward.

Juan Francisco Estrada

9 of 10

It's not a coincidence that three flyweights have been featured on this list. The division is loaded with excellent fighters that do nothing but entertain.

Juan Francisco Estrada may have lost to Roman Gonzalez but that certainly doesn't define his career. He's an outstanding boxer who works in savory combinations behind a commanding jab. Any bout between him and Naoya Inoue or even Gonzalez again would be worth the price of admission.

It would be cool to see Estrada get more media coverage. That way fans could get a feel for what he can do with his hands. Without that, one of the best fighters in the sport will go largely unnoticed.

Keith Thurman

10 of 10

We end this list with a 26-year-old, undefeated bruiser from Clearwater, Florida, who has a shot to be boxing's next superstar. His name is Keith Thurman and he's performing boxing miracles in the welterweight division.

Thurman is a smooth fighter. His footwork helps prop up his punching power. And that power has led Thurman to drop 22 of his 26 opponents.

What we really like about Thurman, though, is that he's got an extremely bright future. Of all the welterweights we've named, Thurman has youth by his side. That means if he can stay on the right track, he could make some serious noise in the division.
