Seth Rollins' Feud with John Cena Is More Interesting Than His Feud with Sting
Prior to his match against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, John Cena was cradling the United States Championship.
He stared deeply into the title, like a loving father looks at his only child before dropping him off for his first day of preschool. Even as Rollins was hot-dogging with the most coveted championship in WWE, Cena remained enamored with a title he almost single-handedly rebuilt.
Following his SummerSlam loss, Cena berated Jon Stewart for his involvement. He cited his pride in being able to defend the United States Championship against fan favorites like Sami Zayn, Neville and Cesaro.

Despite being screwed out of a chance to unseat Ric Flair's iconic record of 16 world championships, losing the United States Championship was Cena's main concern.
Cena's emotional involvement with the United States Championship makes his rematch against Rollins at Night of Champions much more intriguing. Though this won't even be Rollins' biggest match of the night, Cena's affection for the secondary title makes it seem like the biggest of his career.
Rollins' main event match against Sting has failed to gain similar traction. Instead of emphasizing titles the way Cena has, Rollins' passive-aggressive feud with Triple H is dominating this rivalry.
If Cena's affection for the United States Championship is driving his feud with Rollins, Rollins' affection for Triple H is driving his feud with Sting. Given all of the mentions of WWE's COO, fans will be expecting Triple H to get involved in Rollins' match against Sting.
The in-ring storylines—of Sting's potential first win in WWE or his first world championship with WWE—pale in comparison to a petty subplot, which is the mark of a poor feud.
The execution of the feud has also been disappointing. Sting's destruction of Rollins' statue last week was over-the-top. It clashed with his dark crow character and harkened back to his hit-or-miss Joker gimmick in TNA.
With Cena, there is no third party who fans must concern themselves with. It's a match primarily concerned with Cena's quest to regain the United States Championship. Not only does this make for a solid, simple storyline, but also it continues to add value to the U.S. title with a high-profile contender.
The juxtaposition of Rollins' two feuds are exposing the buildup to what should be a bigger match against Sting. With fewer cooks in the kitchen and more emphasis on the world championship, Rollins' feud with Sting could be as good as his rivalry with Cena.
