WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE Night of Champions 2015 for Week of Sept. 10

Aaron BowerSep 10, 2015

It's been another busy week in WWE when it comes to rumors, speculation and hype surrounding what's going on in the company.

With Night of Champions a little over a week away, talk about the event and the potential matches on the card, as well as what's happening elsewhere in WWE, is rife.

Let's take a look at the latest rumors that have been swirling around WWE over the past few days.

Ryback vs. Kevin Owens for Night of Champions?

With Ryback now seemingly out of his rather disappointing feud with The Miz and Big Show, it's clear he needs a fresh challenger if he's to make a hit of his reign as intercontinental champion.

There are plenty of Superstars on the edge of the title picture who would benefit greatly from a shot, and it seems one of those is about to get an opportunity at Night of Champions.

It is only a brief note, but LordsOfPain.net's Marc Middleton writes that the man scheduled for the title shot at the forthcoming event is none other than Kevin Owens.

It's a smart move all round by WWE—not least because it would benefit Ryback to be thrown into a rivalry with someone fans can relate to.

Owens has managed to pick up plenty of heat since making his debut on the main roster, and having a genuine heel who can also wrestle to a high degree feels like exactly the kind of opponent Ryback needs right now.

Furthermore, the prospect of seeing Owens with gold around his waist would certainly manage to satisfy WWE fans after he failed to emerge with the United States Championship after his rivalry with John Cena.

WWE Set to Test out Rugby League Star

WWE have never been afraid to test out stars from other sports.

But branching out into the world of rugby is something that another American sport has done successfully recently after Jarryd Hayne made the final roster on the San Francisco 49ers for the upcoming NFL season.

And according to the Courier Mail (h/t WrestlingInc.com), WWE is going to give an NRL star a tryout later this month. Daniel Vidot, star of leading Australian side the Brisbane Broncos, is the player in question, and he's even confirmed the news himself:

"

I've had an approach from the WWE. They've contacted me and have offered to fly me over to Orlando in a few weeks to try out for the WWE. I'm seriously looking at it. They first approached me last year but I was playing good football with the Broncos, so I didn't take it seriously. Then just recently they contacted me again and I've decided I'm going to have a crack at it.

"

As a writer whose main job is to write about rugby league in the United Kingdom, I'm fully aware of Vidot and can confirm he's a hugely talented athlete. If he can show any sort of wrestling ability when thrown into a squared circle during his tryout, I fully expect him to be a hit.

Rugby league is a tough sport (tougher than rugby union), and he'll certainly be capable of taking the bumps in the ring. But as previously mentioned, his success will depend on whether he shows up with his in-ring ability and all the other skills required to be a pro wrestler.

Undertaker Not Retiring Just Yet?

After stepping into the ring for the second time this year at SummerSlam, talk has once again started to turn toward when Undertaker will wrestle his final match in WWE.

His condition has naturally deteriorated over the last few years, but he did manage to catch the eye against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam with his performance.

And according to Middleton (h/t Wrestling Observer Newsletter), Undertaker won't be retiring any time soon. Jim Ross wrote on his blog that he thinks The Deadman could wrestle beyond next year and that his final match won't be at WrestleMania 32.

That would be good for WWE and its booking and pulling power, because so long as 'Taker is on its books and still wrestling matches, the company is guaranteed to draw more crowds and interest than when he isn't.

And you still get the feeling that despite their paths not having crossed just yet, 'Taker and Sting are surely destined to wrestle at some point.

Hopefully that can happen before both men decide to call it a day, but as for Undertaker, it appears we're set for a good few matches from The Deadman still.
