Fantasy Predictions: Locks, Sleepers, and Busts. Week 2

Kevin HatfieldSep 17, 2009

As week two of fantasy football approaches it is time to determine who to start and sit this week, and to see who are some potential sleepers this week.

Quarterbacks:

High Scorer: Tom Brady

Brady is going up against a Jets defense that was 29th last year against the pass. Also, this is Tom Brady. He is going to put up big numbers no matter what. Hopefully his counterpart Mark Sanchez has a big game too, because this has all the makings for a high scoring shoot out.

Sleeper: Shaun Hill

Hill and the 49'ers will be going up against the worst ranked pass defense of 2008. The Seahawks allowed over 250 yards/game last year and only had 9 interceptions the whole season. After an easy win against the depleted Rams, look for the Seahawks true colors to show on Sunday.

Potential bust: Phillip Rivers

Rivers will not have a horrible game against the Ravens, but he will not be putting up the stats you expect from a top five quarterback. I think with a banged up LT, Rivers may have too much weight on him. If you have a backup with a more favorable match up, I suggest starting them.

Running Backs:

High scorer: Adrian Peterson

Detroit Lions... enough said.

Sleeper: Leon Washington

Washington is playing against a Patriot's defense that I think will be allowing a lot of points to the Jets. Look for Washington to get at least 10 carrys and at least 5 receptions. Washington is also always a threat to take back a kick for the ends zone. I would be very surprised if he did not get at least one touchdown this week.

Potential bust: Steve Slaton

It looks like last years waiver wire pick up of the year is faltering. Well, if Slaton could not get it done against the Jets, then he has no chance against the Titans. The Titans completely crushed the Steeler's run game, and they will definitely duplicate that again against the Texans.

Wide Receivers:

High scorer: Reggie Wayne

Without Anthony Gonzalez, Reggie Wayne will be getting the majority of the looks against the Dolphins. Wayne put up 160 yards and a touchdown last week, and fantasy owns should definitely be looking for similar statistics.

Sleeper: Percy Harvin

Rumor has it that him and Brett Favre are developing a close relationship. Harvin and the Vikings will be going up against the Lions. These are the kind of weeks when coaches can take chances. I am sure we will see more wildcat with Harvin and maybe even some drawn up running plays. Whatever the Vikings do, look for Harvin to put up big numbers.

Potential bust: Terrell Owens

I see this situation in Buffalo only getting worse. No Marshawn Lynch and not an air-it-out offense scheme spells trouble for TO. What's worse is that the Bills will be going up against a defense that was ranked fourth against the pass last year. Here we go again with the TO show...

Tight Ends:

High scorer: Dustin Keller

Keller is quickly becoming one of Mark Sanchez's favorite targets. Last week he caught 4 passes for 94 yards. I see Keller putting up just as good stats this week and potentially getting a touchdown.

Sleeper: Vernon Davis

I think this will be the week when Vernon Davis finally becomes the elite tight end everyone thought he would be. He has all the confidence from his coaches right now, and he will be going up against a poor pass defense. Remember Vernon Davis for the rest of the year.

Potential bust: Tony Gonzalez

I think the Carolina will beat Atlanta, and that they will completely shut down the Atlanta offense. Do not expect the kind of production you got from Gonzalez last week. I still believe his best years are behind him.

I will only be predicting the players this week. Next week I may also do kickers and defenses. Week 2 should definitely be a good one for the NFL.
