Floyd Mayweather vs. Andre Berto: Latest Prop Bets and Fight Card Odds
Saturday's fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Andre Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is quickly approaching, and little has changed in terms of who's tabbed to win the main event.
Mayweather has extremely favorable odds to come out on top. Instead of simply wagering on him to claim victory and improve to 49-0 for his career with short odds of -3000 to Berto's +1100, per Odds Shark, there are some prop alternatives and fight specifics therein to explore.
Check out some of the prop bets Odds Shark has available that could add to bettors' stakes ahead of Saturday's showdown, which figures to go Mayweather's way:
| Over 11.5 rounds | -240 |
| Under 11.5 rounds | +165 |
| Result: Draw or Technical Draw | +2800 |
| Result: Mayweather to win by Decision or Technical Decision | -225 |
| Result: Mayweather to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification | +150 |
| Result: Berto to win by Decision or Technical Decision | +4000 |
| Result: Berto to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification | +2500 |
| Floyd Mayweather will fight in 2016 | +150 |
| Floyd Mayweather will not fight in 2016 | -200 |
Berto has a knockout percentage of 70, so he has displayed some serious punching power in the past. Manny Pacquiao packed similar explosiveness and yet was unable to get anything going against Mayweather in a unanimous-decision loss, albeit with a torn rotator cuff.
Oddsmakers seem to believe the same result will occur here and that Mayweather won't leave any doubt in the judges' minds as to who the winner of Saturday's bout is. Such an outcome is reasonable to presume since KOs aren't the name of Mayweather's game.
Despite his undeniable results, ESPN's Skip Bayless is among those who believe Mayweather still has more to prove:
Those who perpetually question Mayweather's skills and quality of opponents may drive Money to continue fighting. That prop to suggest he will fight in 2016 may not seem so unrealistic, especially because his grand finale is shaping up to be an anticlimactic conclusion.
Mayweather even claims he's been offered massive amounts of cash to continue his career.
"People been throwing crazy numbers at me to stay in the sport...nine figures up front...right now, I'm OK...Bill Gates, his job ain't really like mine," said Mayweather, per FightHype.com's Ben Thompson.
Sweet Science purists will undoubtedly get a kick out of seeing Mayweather's technical brilliance on display for what appears to be the final time. His reflexes and counterpunching tactics were too much for a banged-up Pacquiao to handle, and it stands to reason even a fully fit Berto isn't bound to pull off a massive upset.
After all, Mayweather has never been beaten before. But the significance and impact of Saturday's likely impending win may not be enough for Money to ride into the sunset completely content.
As for the rest of the card, here are some predictions as to how those fights will unfold:
| Super Featherweight | Roman Martinez vs. Orlando Salido | Martinez -225, Salido +175 | Martinez |
| Super Middleweight | Badou Jack vs. George Groves | Jack +120, Groves -150 | Jack |
| Super Welterweight | Vanes Martirosyan vs. Ishe Smith | Martirosyan -450, Smith +325 | Martirosyan |
| Featherweight | Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Jonathan Oquendo | Gonzalez -1429, Oquendo +700 | Gonzalez |
The undercard may actually be more of an entertaining spectacle than Mayweather's own bout. Headlining the action is a rematch between Roman Martinez and Orlando Salido. These men fought earlier in 2015 and may have put on the best fight of the entire year.
Salido will be seeking vengeance for his prior loss, but it's difficult to envision Martinez dropping this one given his familiarity with his opponent and the fact that he knocked him to the canvas multiple times in the prior fight.
Hopefully for Mayweather he won't be upstaged in his last hurrah. Indications are it could happen, though—ESPN.com's Darren Rovell reported Wednesday that 2,100 seats are still available.
Tickets are even discounted significantly from the Pacquiao fight in May. So is the quality of adversary Mayweather is facing. Perhaps there is a correlation there The Money Team may want to read into and advise their soon-to-be-retired boxing legend to ponder.
