Kana, Amanda Saccomanno and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertSep 9, 2015

Change is coming to the WWE NXT women's division in the form of a Japanese whirlwind named Kana. After wrestling for a long list of promotions including Pro Wrestling Wave, Smash and Wrestling New Classic, the submission specialist is officially on her way to WWE's development brand.

Amanda Saccomanno, a WWE Tough Enough finalist, may soon follow her. The same goes for a woman who appeared on TNA British Boot Camp.

The latest round of NXT news isn't all about welcoming new faces to the women's division, though. Another female prospect finds herself at the center of a social media firestorm after some controversial posts came to light.

The following is a look at all those stories and the matches to expect when NXT travels to a trio of Texas cities next week.

WWE Announces Signing of Japanese Star

1 of 5

After weeks of speculation, Kana is headed to WWE. As WWE announced on its official website, the company has signed Kana. She "will officially report to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla., in late September."

Through a translator, Kana told Brian Fritz of Sporting News, "I was looking for a new challenge and when the opportunity came up with WWE, the timing just felt right."

Kana has wrestled for over 10 years now, collecting championships at a number of Japanese promotions.

She is a strong mat wrestler whose repertoire is flush with submission holds. She has presence and a marketable look to go with those ring skills as well.

Signing her bolsters the NXT women's division in a big way. The bar is certainly raised with her arrival.

NXT Diva's Controversial Social Media Posts Emerge

Nhooph Al-Areebi (Jasmin Areebi) may soon become the next Zahra Schreiber.

The recent signee may not make it to NXT TV thanks to comments she posted several years ago. As noted by Wrestle Zone's Nick Paglino (Warning: contains NSFW language), Al-Areebi retweeted a message with the N-word and made several negative comments about African Americans. She has since deleted her social media accounts.

Whether that will be enough to satisfy WWE officials is doubtful. The company just let Schreiber go for Nazi-themed posts and has made sure to distance itself from Hulk Hogan after his use of the N-word went public. Al-Areebi was just a teenager when she wrote the posts in question.

But that may not be a good enough excuse to save her from following Schreiber out of NXT.

WWE Possibly Signing Former TNA Prospect

3 of 5

The NXT women's division can't rest on its heels. The search for talented women wrestlers is not slowing down.

Nikki Storm appears to be close to signing with WWE. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc) reported that Storm is scheduled to fly to Florida in October and undergo medical tests for WWE.

As we have seen with wrestlers such as Willie Mack, nothing is official or certain until those tests are done. Still, fans of Storm's work in places such as Absolute Intense Wrestling and Shimmer will be happy to hear this news. It means she's on the precipice of joining the WWE developmental brand.

A stint on TNA's British Boot Camp didn't end with her signing a deal with that company. The promising Scottish grappler is now an NXT hopeful instead.

Tough Finalist Reportedly Headed to WWE Performance Center

4 of 5

Amanda Saccomanno may follow in The Miz's and Ryback's footsteps, making the WWE roster despite not winning WWE Tough Enough.

In the reality show competition, she placed second among the women to Sara Lee. A recent report, though, pointed to WWE wanting to take her on regardless.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson noted, "We are told the company is bringing her in and she's been training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando."

Like with Nikki Storm, this doesn't mean that anything's official. However, WWE is clearly giving her a substantial chance to earn a spot in the developmental system. With the company behind her and her boasting the kind of look WWE has coveted in the past, the safe bet is that she gets an NXT deal in the next few weeks.

NXT Announces Matches for Texas Tour

5 of 5

Before Night of Champions kicks off, NXT is traveling to Texas for the first time ever. Austin, San Antonio and Houston are all getting their first chances to see the developmental brand live.

WWE has recently listed some intriguing bouts for these shows. Via its offical Twitter account, NXT announced several matches for the upcoming live events in Texas:

  • Sept. 17 (Houston): Emma vs. Bayley, Samoa Joe vs. Baron Corbin
  • Sept. 18 (Austin) Baron Corbin vs. Finn Balor, Bayley vs. Dana Brooke, Samoa Joe vs. Tyler Breeze
  • Sept. 19 (San Antonio) Tyler Breeze vs. Finn Balor

Joe vs. Corbin offers Houston fans an NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn rematch.

For the most part, the other clashes are fresh combinations. That's likely to entice more fans, helping to make NXT's trip to the Lone Star State the latest of its successes.
