Sting Must Continue Mind Games with Seth Rollins to Effectively Build Feud
With only a few appearances in WWE to his name so far, as a massive veteran of the wrestling business, Sting has a vast array of experience and skills that the company can take advantage of ahead of Night of Champions.
The build for Sting’s match against Triple H at WrestleMania 31 was fairly obvious based on what you’d expect of a part-time Superstar. There were sporadic appearances, and most of the talking was being done by the other party in the rivalry—in this instance Triple H and even Stephanie McMahon.

But when it comes to this bout with Seth Rollins at Night of Champions, we saw exactly what Sting could bring to the table on Monday night on Raw.
It was one of those fantastic backstage segments that dragged throughout the course of the night and ultimately ended with Sting getting inside the head of his opponent from the start to the finish of the show.
Sting's revealing that he was in possession of Rollins’ statue—something WWE fans weren’t even sure existed given that The Icon was on the perch when it was meant to be unveiled—instantly gave him plenty of pops from the crowd in Baltimore.
Sting was acting sarcastically and cleverly, and he was already tormenting Rollins just 10 minutes into the show.
Considering Sting’s recent TV time with WWE in the six or seven months he’s been involved in storylines, that would have probably been sufficient for his night’s work.
But what followed was sheer brilliance and babyface promotional work at its finest. Sting would appear on the screen and distract Rollins enough for Ryback to score an unlikely win against him in the champion's first match of the night. He once again appeared at the end of the show to dramatic effect.
Although Rollins wasn’t directly involved in the pinfall that ensured a second loss on the night for him, Sting still took the time to appear on the big screen and deliver another message to the WWE world heavyweight champion.
This time, not only did Sting cut another entertaining and witty promo, but he also managed to destroy Rollins’ statue in the process before riding away on the garbage truck to the adulation of everyone in the arena.
It was a side of Sting WWE fans haven’t seen too much of yet. Normally, his remit has been to come in, cut a serious promo, disappear for a few weeks and then show up to wrestle (albeit only on one occasion).
This was the Sting we’ve been waiting for. The grand manipulator, the guy who can torment his opponents without even being in close proximity to them. For some reason, the whole Sting vs. Seth Rollins idea hadn’t sparkled too much in the opening two weeks of the feud, with almost a sense of inevitability surrounding the result.
But just the presence of Sting on Raw three weeks in a row has been wonderful to see. This is where WWE can’t let up. Rollins is at his best when he looks vulnerable. Sting is being played as the guy who is in his head with some masterful mind games, and they have to continue as Night of Champions approaches.
It wouldn’t just do the feud a world of good. It’d also be magnificent to watch as fans.
