Real Madrid Transfer News: Martin Odegaard Addresses Premier League Rumours

Rory MarsdenSep 8, 2015

Real Madrid wonderkid Martin Odegaard has revealed he considered moving to the Premier League before joining Los Blancos from Norwegian outfit Stromsgodset in January.

The 16-year-old Norway international was courted by a host of Europe's top clubs before he decided to move to the Bernabeu, and he is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in world football.

Odegaard has revealed he spent time with at least three Premier League clubs before deciding to set up camp in La Liga, per the MailOnline's Dominic King:

"

I visited Liverpool, the two Manchester teams and they were all very nice but my choice was Real Madrid and I am very happy with that. Madrid is very good. It is the best place if you want to become a better footballer. I have been given the No. 10 shirt [at Real Madrid Castilla] and it is a big responsibility having that number but it is the one that I like and I am just going to enjoy it.

"

Unsurprisingly given his youth, Odegaard has yet to nail down a place with the Real first team and is spending the majority of his time with the club's reserve team, Castilla.

There were previously reports the young midfielder could be sent out on loan to benefit from more first-team action, with Scottish club Celtic being linked, per the Scotsman.

Odegaard admitted he could be open to a loan move to England in the future but insisted he is satisfied with his current situation. He described working under Castilla coach Zinedine Zidane as "a privilege," relayed by King.

Per Bleacher Report's Andy Brassell, Real failed to make any major signings in the recent transfer window. As such, Odegaard may smell an opportunity to make an impact in the first team should he excel in the reserves:

Real were able to beat off Premier League competition for Odegaard's signature last January, but they may again be dealing with English teams when the winter transfer window comes around.

According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Aaron Flanagan of the Daily Mirror), both Arsenal and Manchester City are preparing to swoop for Real forward Isco in January.

Although the 23-year-old Spaniard has failed to nail down a first-team spot at the Bernabeu, he is supremely talented and a valuable back-up, and he could certainly be a star of the future.

Real would do well to warn the Gunners and City off Isco should the pair come calling in the new year.
