WWE SmackDown: Spoiler-Free Preview for September 3

Ryan DilbertSep 3, 2015

Superstars will try to climb into contention on the Sept. 3 edition of WWE SmackDown.

The Prime Time Players will look to score a big win and reclaim the No. 1 contender's spot to the tag team titles. Cesaro has a shot to bounce back from a loss and start thinking about challenging for the U.S. title down the road. And after being left out of the Beat the Clock Challenge on Monday night, Tamina Snuka can make an emphatic statement about where she stands in the Divas Championship picture.

Miami, Florida's AmericanAirlines plays host to the latest leg of the build to Night of Champions.

The night promises to offer a clearer picture of what to expect from that card. It also boasts a number of intriguing matchups.

WWE taped all the action on Tuesday night. SmackDown, though, won't air on SyFy until Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. Fans can now either unwrap things early by reading an online spoiler report (courtesy of Wrestling Inc) or continue on for a results-free look at all the matches on tap for Thursday's show.

The Prime Time Players vs. The Dudley Boyz

This clash will go a long way toward deciding who takes on The New Day at Night of Champions.

While The Prime Time Players have a rematch coming to them, The Dudley Boyz are clearly making a push to take the next stab at the title. Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley have started their recent WWE run at 2-0. One of those wins came against The New Day in non-title action on Monday's Raw.

So far, The Dudley Boyz have produced two underwhelming matches. Can they improve in that area against Titus O'Neil and Darren Young? Can they keep rolling in terms of win-loss record?

The more contentious this gets and the less decisive the result is, the more likely it is that we'll be heading for a three-team collision at the upcoming pay-per-view.

Stardust vs. Neville

It appears that despite a lack of narrative development since the night after SummerSlam, this feud is still going.

The spotlight warmed Stardust before that marquee pay-per-view. With Stephen Amell now out of the picture, WWE has focused less on the bizarre heel. Perhaps that will change, beginning here.

Stardust attacks Neville.

Neville will attempt to bring down the supervillain of the squared circle. The big question will be whether he can accomplish that on Thursday's SmackDown, allowing both men to move on, or whether he'll have to wait to conquer The Prince of Dark Matter.

Cesaro vs. Sheamus

A pair of top-notch brawlers will step into the ring once more. While both men have been recently busy with other rivals (Cesaro with Kevin Owens, Sheamus with Randy Orton), these two have met plenty in the recent past.

The results have usually been highly entertaining.

Cesaro just delivered the best match on Monday's Raw. He has a chance to do the same on SmackDown. Keep an eye on how he sells his injury from that battle with Owens.

A storyline rib injury cost him against Owens. Will that linger here? Will The Celtic Warrior pounce on that weakness, or will it be a forgotten narrative element by the time these two clash?

R-Truth vs. Bo Dallas

A match one would expect to see on Main Event or Superstars is instead booked for SmackDown. This offers very little in the way of story or intrigue in general.

R-Truth hasn't done much of anything since losing his king-themed feud with King Barrett. Bo Dallas hasn't had a rival in a long while. His most notable accomplishment lately has been a trip to Suplex City courtesy of Brock Lesnar.

With two bottom feeders going to battle, there is no clear favorite. Whether this is just filler or a means to get one of these men some momentum remains to be seen.

Charlotte vs. Tamina Snuka

Charlotte claimed the No. 1 contender spot on Monday night by knocking off Brie Bella in less than two minutes.

It's hard to imagine her scoring a victory in that time against the much larger, much more powerful Snuka. A win of any kind will help showcase and elevate her en route to her impending championship bout with Nikki Bella.

Snuka, though, could play spoiler here. An upset would insert her into the Divas title discussion. Team B.A.D. has to be upset that it was not a part of the Beat the Clock Challenge that crowned Charlotte the top contender.

By the end of SmackDown, it will either be more upset after seeing Snuka fall or have reason to celebrate after its enforcer takes down The Nature Girl.

The New Day (Big E and Kofi Kingston) vs. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose

Reigns and Ambrose get to take a break from Braun Strowman's steamrolling them and instead step into a showdown with the tag champs.

The feud with The Wyatt Family has become one-sided thanks to the monstrous Strowman's emergence. He has the babyfaces reeling, but they could shift their momentum in a major win with a non-title victory against The New Day.

The general assumption is that either The Dudley Boyz or The Prime Time Players will be challenging for the gold at SummerSlam. An impressive win from Reigns and Ambrose will rewrite that story, though.

At the very least, it will be fun to see the cocky, showy heels juxtaposed with the no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners style of the former members of The Shield.
