Robert Griffin III Gets Standing Ovation During Redskins Luncheon
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III received a standing ovation on Wednesday at the team's Welcome Home Luncheon, according to ESPN.com's John Keim.
It hasn't been an easy couple of weeks for Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. After suffering a concussion against the Detroit Lions in their Week 2 preseason game, Griffin lost his starting job to Kirk Cousins.
With what looks like a strained relationship with head coach Jay Gruden, there is a chance Washington will cut or trade Griffin by Friday's 4 p.m. deadline, according to Keim, who watched the quarterback take the stage after receiving the team's Salute Award for his work in the military community.

Keim described the scene: "With that as a backdrop, the crowd of about 600 people at the corporate-driven luncheon—as well as Griffin's teammates—stood and applauded as the quarterback headed to the stage."
Per Keim, Griffin did not address any rumors or speculation swirling around his future with the Redskins and "showed no emotion on his face or in his voice during the speech."
Griffin's 14-21 career record as a starter paired with an extensive injury history over three seasons has put him on the brink of being let go by the Redskins.
With Griffin set to make $16.1 million this year after he is cleared to play, NFL.com's Jeff Darlington doesn't see many options for the 25-year-old quarterback:
"The Redskins would be indecisive and financially irresponsible to bench Griffin and still allow him to practice, but they would also be naïve to think this will end quietly if that's the path they choose. Which is why cutting Griffin, sooner rather than later, is the only diplomatic choice.
"
While it might be the right choice, Griffin still seems to be popular among his teammates and those close to the Redskins organization. And it was apparent on Wednesday night.
For Gruden's sake, Cousins needs to work out under center in Washington, or else there might be some divides created in the locker room that could throw this team further into chaos. That would mean the Redskins would see plenty of more time in last place in the NFC East.
