Bayley, Rich Swann and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
Bayley and Rich Swann fans have reasons aplenty to be happy. The NXT women's champ is impressing officials with her popularity. Swann is headed to WWE.
After reading the latest word on how Bayley is doing in terms of connecting with fans and selling T-shirts, it's clear that she won't be at the developmental level for long. A main-roster run awaits, and likely so does a long stay in the Divas title picture.
As for Swann, the high-flyer is poised to jump from the independent circuit to WWE.
In other NXT news, a social media controversy cost one prospect her job, a new coach could soon be on her way, and Baron Corbin ventured away from Full Sail University over the weekend.
WWE Releases NXT Prospect
1 of 5Zahra Schreiber will not be making her debut on NXT TV. Her journey through the developmental system is over after WWE caught wind of some ill-advised Instagram posts.
The company released a statement (courtesy of PWInsider) that stated it had released Schreiber "due to inappropriate and offensive remarks she made that were recently brought to our attention."
She had been working alongside Solomon Crowe as of late as his manager/sister. That angle is clearly over, and Schreiber is now forced to try to make it elsewhere.
Her tale is a cautionary one about what prospects put on their social media accounts.
WWE Signs New Trainer
2 of 5The WWE Performance Center is set to welcome a 13-year veteran. According to Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Wrestling Inc), Sarah Stock will sign with WWE soon to work as a coach for NXT.
Stock (also known as Sarita and Dark Angel) has worked in Japan and Mexico, for TNA and Shimmer. Her varied experience and well-rounded ring style will make her a valuable asset to the staff.
Hall of Famer Jim Ross agrees. On his blog, Ross commented on the potential deal. He wrote, "Expect former CMLL star Sarita, Sarah Stock, to be a coach in NXT. She's a really solid wrestler who should make a good teacher/mentor for her students."
Adding Sara Del Rey as a coach transformed the NXT women's division. It's good to see that WWE isn't content to just stay put and has instead pulled in another talented wrestler to push its wrestlers.
WWE Signs Two Indy Wrestlers
3 of 5The WWE talent pool refuses to stay stagnant. Biff Busick and Rich Swann are the latest indy stars to head to NXT.
Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Wrestle Zone) that pending physicals, Swann and Busick are both NXT-bound.
Both Busick and Swann are the type of wrestlers one would have assumed in the past to be too small to garner interest from WWE. But the company is clearly changing its philosophy. Talented athletes of various sizes are netting developmental deals.
Busick is well-traveled, having wrestled everywhere from Combat Zone Wrestling to Southside Wrestling in the United Kingdom. He can work brawls and mat clinics equally well.
Swann is a stunning high-flyer. His speed wows. His leaping ability grabs an audience's attention.
He'll fit in well with a roster that also boasts guys such as Hideo Itami and Finn Balor. Fun matches are on their way.
Buzz Around Bayley
4 of 5The current NXT women's champ is reportedly getting big-time praise from within WWE.
Bryan Alvarez noted on F4WOnline (h/t Wrestle Zone) that a company employee told him that Bayley "is so ungodly over, especially with little girls, that if she were to start granting wishes through Make-A-Wish, she will destroy John Cena." He also noted that Bayley's merchandise is selling really well.
That's not surprising considering the kind of reaction she so often gets from a live audience.
Her gimmick is tailor-made to appeal to younger girls, a demographic WWE hasn't traditionally been strong with. That ups Bayley's stock in a major way.
In addition to all her in-ring skills, she's clearly a marketable asset as well.
Other News, Notes
5 of 5Baron Corbin saw some action with the main roster. Despite not making great progress recently, the powerhouse traveled with WWE proper and competed against Jimmy Uso.
Per Pro Wrestling Torch, Corbin faced Uso at a live event in Orlando, Florida, over the weekend.
While it would be surprising to see him get promoted any time soon, no one saw Braun Strowman getting a call-up.
Don't believe what you may have read about indy wrestler Athena lately. She posted on Facebook, "I have not confirmed any of the rumors going around! Let it be known I do not run my fan page! anything posted on it are not my words but those of the awesome fan that volunteered to run it."
She is presumably referring to reports like this one from WrestlingNews.co.
Ruby Mobs, on the other hand, confirmed that she has a WWE tryout on the way. She wrote on her Facebook page, "Not only am I APW's world heavy weight champion but I also have a for sure WWE...NXT tryout in Orlando Florida next month!"
