Manchester United Reportedly Want David De Gea Renewal, Star to Face Liverpool
Manchester United remain keen on extending the contract of wantaway goalkeeper David De Gea after the 24-year-old’s move to Real Madrid collapsed on Monday, and they will begin reintegrating him into the side upon his return from international duty.
According to Ruben Jimenez of Marca, De Gea has been “greatly affected” by his move to the Spanish capital falling through at the last possible second and will have to go back to United, where he’s had to “put up with harsh comments from Van Gaal and insults from those who have been his loyal supporters over the past four years.”

However, according to the report, United will look to offer De Gea a new deal, thus preventing the goalkeeper from leaving on a free transfer next summer. Alex Shaw of ESPN FC thinks that’d be a positive move on the Red Devils’ part:
"First thing I'd be doing at MUFC now is offering De Gea a huge extension (again). Might be receptive to it considering Real messed him about

The process of getting De Gea back into the United starting lineup also seems set to begin after the international break. Jimenez’s piece suggests he will be reinstated for Premier League and Champions League matches. Sam Wallace of the Independent writes that De Gea will return to the team for the crunch clash with Liverpool on Sept. 12.

According to a senior Manchester United source cited by Marc Williams of the Daily Star, manager Louis van Gaal is pleased to have the Spanish international around and will move to build bridges between himself and the goalkeeper: “Louis van Gaal, who is currently on holiday at his private villa in Portugal, is 'delighted' De Gea will now be available for the rest of the season. [Van Gaal] is willing to repair their broken relationship when he returns from the international break.”
Bleacher Report’s Sam Tighe took a look at how United will handle the situation surrounding De Gea moving forward:
It’s not an ideal scenario for any party. De Gea wanted the move, Real wanted him, and United were happy getting a sizeable sum and a replacement in place, but now, it’s key all parties make the most of this undesirable situation.
Indeed, BBC Sport's Simon Stone expects United to press on as if little has happened:
For United, not using De Gea because he wanted to leave would be a bad move. The Spaniard is undoubtedly the best goalkeeper at the club and arguably the best in the league. In what is a critical season for the club and Van Gaal, his influence between the sticks will give the Red Devils a massive boost as they bid to secure themselves among the Premier League’s elite.
De Gea may feel a little embarrassed walking out at Old Trafford for the first time this season, but football moves on quickly. Should he turn in a virtuoso display, the transfer saga will quickly be forgotten, and he’ll be adored by those associated with the Red Devils again. Convincing him to stay long term poses a completely different proposition entirely, though.
